Cant remember the cost but a good small list of places to go...

Ios -for drinking and hard core partying.
Paros - for both night life and chilling
AntiParos next to Paros - for pure relaxation and sunsets
Poros - Next to Athens but a good wee starter for 10 to get you into the islands
Amorgos- Apparently has the most beautiful beaches and sea, near Paros
Santorini- is expensive but beautifully volcanic.
Patmos - Is very far away indeed but has a great chilled out feel

Naxos is nice as well... (or it was when I was there 6 yrs ago!)
Nice village with small streets, good restaurants and great sunsets (but don't they all)...

Don't pre-book any accomodation. Organise it after you get off the ferry. (but not just as you get off the ferry).

What we did was walk around the villages, and ask people about accomodation. If you don't like the place you got, move.. There's loads of places to stay, as long as you dont panic...

Heh I spent two months in greece last year June+July
I wouldn't recomend going for just two weeks because it takes a while to get there and you'll end up paying way to much cash. I spent most of the time in Ios which is an eight hour trip from Athens[See the acropolis then get the **** outa there KIP!!]
    General Rules
You can't really book accomadation on most of the islands except Santorini, Crete and Naxos. You just walk off the ferry and look for the best deal. Don't worry there will be a stampeed to get to you and they'll all try to under cut each other.
1/ Take whatever seems reasonible[you won't be stayin long]
2/ Stay 1 night and then get out and knock on those doors!
every local on the islands has rooms to rent but again keep an eye on the price as you can get ripped off. Stop people and ask them where there staying. There's lots of Irish people out there and they'll help you out if they can [Shame it doesn't work that way back home]
3/ locate a desent restuarant that's cheap. Cooking your own food can be fun but can lead to malnutrishion and a diet of beer soup:D
4/ Once your set up you can island hop if you want.
From ios paros is four hours away naxos is about the same .Santorini is a little further out but and is the most expensive by a long shot.Crete is another eight hours on from ios but if you've been to ibiza, santa ponza you get the picture...lots of "cough" brits "cough" being drunkin ****.

If you need to know anything else PM me

If you are Island hoping and the ferry journey is over 6 hrs(many are) a good idea is to take a night sailing if available. Most people lie in their sleeping bags out on deck under a brilliant starie sky, its quite beautiful. You also save on the cost of a nights accommodation. Ios is a good place for the crack but it is IOS(Irish Over Seas) and is packed with Irish ppl. As was mentioned word of mouth is one of the best ways to suss the best cheap accomo. The smaller Islands (sifinos, serifos, lesbos ect) can be very quite, it depends on what your looking for. All in all I found the greek ppl to be a very friendly bunch. If you are on one of the bigger Islands like Crete, Santorini) hire a moped and take a trip up into the mountains, its well worth it. Have a great trip.

Logie's advice is spot on. I spent two months traveling round Greece last summer too.

Cyclades are great but if you can get to Karpathos and Symi in the Dodecanese, they were my faves.

And, yeah, most of Crete is over commerciallised.

Depends what sort of time you're looking for. Ios is mental in the high season.

i was in ios in the 2/3rd week in sept and it was closing for the winter, most of the bars/clubs shut up apparently, we were lucky that we caught the end of it, so maybe head there first if you are planning on going there
