Eurosport on Sky Digital

As you may be aware, NTL will drop Eurosport from its cable package this week in favour of CNBC. A few friends of mine (cycling fans) have enquired about Eurosport on Sky Digital. Here are my questions:

    1) Does Eurosport GB (on Family Pack) cover cycling (main races + classics) to the same extent as the international Eurosport NTL carried until this week?

    2) Can you pick up the other flavours of Eurosport including the international version through the digibox i.e. via Other Channels? If so what frequencies should I look at?

    3) More generally, anyone know the reason it was dropped? It had it's bad points (Tractor Pulling, Indoor Wind Surfing, Metal Detecting etc ...) but did show some good football, tennis and of course cycling.

    Hi Ronan,

Yes, as far as I know from last summer, the main cycling races were covered by British Eurosport.

But this year, the ITV Sport Channel (if it's still alive) will be covering the Tour de France, and they have signed up Phil Liggett, who was, of course, the Channel 4 commentator.

Now, how this effects Eurosport's coverage, let alone British Eurosport, I'm not sure.....

I think it an incredible move for NTL to scrap a good sports channel for business news channel. Hmm. Cheaper?

i would imagine it is to get more analogue customers to move to their digital service

AFAIK Eurosport will not be on NTL digital either.

If they are trying to force otherwise happy cable viewers to Sky Digital they are going the right way about it!

Also, kudos to the ICDG rumour mill, this story was posted way back last Spring.

Well CNBC is the next channel after Eurosport on NTL digital as far as i can remember...

I dont think they are going to remove EuroSport from Digital...bad move if they did...sounds like there are already a lot of ppl peeved off about this one

If that's the case then great, I haven't actually seen Go Digital. I'll tell my friends to check out this option too.

Also, the new ICDG report on the NTL/Eurosport story makes the same point. Thanks for the info!

Eurosport is NOT been removed from NTL Digital. The saturday report in the Irish Times said this.

Can't wait to watch Jay Leno on CNBC for the first time on NTL/Cablelink in about 5 years tommorrow (saturday). Delighted that they have chosen CNBC over Eurosport.
