I've lost the IP address for my LINUX machine and need to reformat it. Is there anyway to find this. I won't be able to begin the format till I find it.

    Easy peasy. A few ways.

    Ask your system admin...or

    from the command prompt:
    Type 'hostname' (return)

Using either your computer or someone (on the same network) else's type:

    'ping hostname'

obviously putting in your own hostname there.

There are billions of other ways but that is what I would do. :)

    Cheers.

Unfortunately I am the system administrator. Ha. Only I'm allowed to laugh at that. I'll run away and try that now.

"ifconfig -a" without the quotes will do the trick.
