    In /etc/X11/XF86Config

Press I when booting the system.

    Choose text and graphic mode.
You have an lcd display, so run xf86config and choose the lowest settings for hsync and vert 1 & 1 respectively. Next create a really low mode line
something nice and low like this
    Modeline "640x400" 25.175 640 664 760 800 400 409 411 450 in the monitor subsection.

Next trawl through the internet and try to find some better modelines, I dunno what else.

What sort of graphics chip to you have und how big is the lcd display?

i had the same problem just recently, in that part of the install, there is a folder marked other (this is for the graphics card, or drivers option i forget which exactly) and in other there is an unknown option, choose that and it should work okay, worked for me anyway.

In that case you might be able to get a modeline like this working
    Modeline "1152x864" 92.00 1152 1200 1312 1520 864 864 866 900

    i had a similar problem

what happened to me was that the mandrake installer chose a default monitor during install.

this was easily fixed by running /usr/sbin/XFdrake and selecting the right laptop display
