What a legend, about time a player defended himself against opposition support scum.

He should be given a medal not a punishment.

Cant say i disagree. It must be very hard to keep your head when youve just had a missle thrown at it.

The crowd at highbury is so close that he would have been under no illusions what they were shouting at him and he would have had a very close up view of the gestures they were making.
I have sympathy for the lad.

    :edit:
Sorry, i wasnt clear enough. Obviously i think the act was reckless and dangerous, Its just understandable in the heat of the moment

Have to agree and disagree, just as Cantona did he took no more shi* BUT he could have hit a kid with that coin, should have held his head, but if he hit a coin thrower then fair play to him

    Er, hello?

What he did was human, and understandable. It was also reckless and dangerous, and could of caused a riot.

It also cost his teamamates the match, cause with 11 vs 9 the writing was on the wall for the gooners.
Also Liverpool must manage without his services fro the peroid of his suspension. Just what they need in the title run in!
No wonder Thomo blew a gasket!

I wonder how many of you would have defended Woodgate or Bowyer or even Viera in a similar situation?

Nobody seems to have pointed out the fact that Carragher just randomly threw the coin back and could have hit anyone - a small child for instance.

I'm a Liverpool fan, but I have to say that I would have no problem with Carragher being banned for the rest of the season. That kind of behaviour should never be tolerated.

If he hit the guy who threw the coin though he could always take up professional darts...if the football thing doesn't work out n all ?!? :D

Way to read the third post in the thread.

I agree that he should face a ban! he is a professional footballer! what makes him so special that he gets to retailiate like that! Celtic players have to deal with dat day in and day out!

People making similarities between Cantona's moment of madness and this are over-reacting! there is a difference between throwing a coin and kicking some1 in the head!

I think Carragher has learned his lesson, a fine a three match ban and a bawling out from Thompson! That should be enough.

I just hope Arsenal find the little scumbag who threw the coin and ban him/her for life.

    Mike.

Yes it was all very unfortunate that he reacted in the way he did.(Im a 'Pool supporter btw )But I feel sympathy for him and most other players. As much as I may dislike Beckham for example the abuse the poor lad gets is amazing, the remarks about his wife and kid are deplorable.

This kind of mindless abuse of players must stop in fairness, whatever about cat calling but throwing objects is completly out of order. Highly regretably he hit a woman in the crowd with the coin, which if followed up by the police could land him in further hot water. Lets just hope that they find the mindless P rick who threw the coin in the first place.

At least he apologised straight afterwards which has gone down well.Hes a great talent its a shame to see him in this bother :(

Yeh, you would have cost your team (the defending champions) a place in the next round of the FA cup, got yourself banned from the title run in, possibly costing them that aswell, and given your whole sport a more negative image than it already has.

    Very understandable.

I can see why he did it but have to say he should have kept his head. As for those saying he should not get a tough ban or this is different to the Cantona thing I disagree. Okay someone threw a coin at him, Cantona just had some scumbag mouthing at him, but the coin hit him in the back ro the leg. It did not injure him or even hurt him. He was standing in between the referee and the linesman when it happened. I think he should get the same deal Cantona got. As regards the fact he hit a woman in the crowd there is no guaruntee that she did not throw the coin in the first place. Anyone from that area could have thrown it and there was very little chance he would get the culprit when he threw it back. If Roy Keane had of thrown that coin or Robbie Savage there would be uproar about it, and I think alot of the people defending Carragher here would be baying for blood.

Well I'm a Liverpool fan also and I think Carragher is a great player - also not the kind of player to normally behave like this

But I s'pose this kind of thing just can't happen, he's a professional and he should have acted professionally

One thing though, saying that he cost Liverpool the match/cup is cr*p imho, it was still 10 vs 9, they threw the game away

All credit to Arsenal as well, they defended well and kept trying to go forward when the opportunity arose

What are you talking about? How did he cost them the match, they were still a man up.
He only got a 3 match ban, that's hardly got him banned from the title run, anyway they just signed Able Xavier as a replacement so that's it sorted.
Carragher may be a good player but he's not gonna be the one that either makes it or breaks it for Liverpool this season. You need to relax a bit man.
IMO Babble is a far better player than Carragher and we've done alright without him havent we and what about Heggem, another really good right back, we are gettin on grand without him too.
Losing Carragher for 3 games wont put us out of the title race!
