I can't be the only one to wonder about the attitude of the Austrailian government regarding their policy of jailing, on arrival all refugees. Okay they dont want to be seen as an easy touch but on the other hand they're rich and have no shortage of space. The optics are terrible and whats more they've "quarantened" hundreds more off shore on some island
    in the Pacific.

A country built on the hard-luck stories and injust policies of a previous era really should be able to take a more generous view.

    Mike.

The Australian governments polices are popular with the people. The afghans are entitled to protest if they want, but the Australians are largely free to run their immigration policy as they see fit - if the afghans dont like it they can always immigrate to some other country. Also the fact that over a hundred years ago people immigrated to Australia does not mean that today it should have practically open borders. Personally I admire the Aussies immigration policy - if nothing else it prevents any failed asylum seekers (read economic migrants) from evading deportation. As for the Afghans in the pacific- whats wrong with the pacific? Its safe and free of oppression, and thats what the Afghans are fleeing from right? So they dont mind.
