NTL to replace Eurosport with CNBC from Feb 1st

Hi all,

Saw this in an ad break on Sky One today and confirmation here:

They say it's still going to be available on their Digital platform.

At least Conan and Leno make a welcome return to Cablelink screens.

Unrelated topic but when the shopping ads appear on eurosport the €countries pay the same price for the product advertised.

Crap... I wanted to see Europsports coverage of the not so popular games in the world cup. It also sucks that NTL has now reduced their basic package from 15 to 14 channels. How did ODTR let them get away with it?

Then again, I sent NTL an email a while back begging them to show the 24 hour version of CNBC for Conan and Jay Leno. Remember their was a thread here trying to get a campaign going to get CNBC 24 hour on NTL. Well it looks like the campaign has been won.

...... you could set up an old satellite dish complete with an old analogue receiver and get Eurosport for free along with some other useful channels

Speaking of old anologue recievers, are all the sky channels gone?
I used to have the old system. (i still do but the dish is in the shed)

all the Sky channels are gone. whats left in English is
Fox News (until the end of the month)
GOD channel (in the morning)
CNBC
Bloomberg (definately on in the morning until i don't know)
CNN
Eurosport

others worth watching are IMO
MTV Central (encryption is gone since MTV UK+IRL left)
MTV 2 Pop Channel (replaced MTV UK+IRL)
VIVA
VIVA+
DSF (german sports channel which sometimes puts something good on, especially Formula 1 practice sessions which no one else does and Premiership highlights in case you miss the goals over the weekend)

not bad for a cheap little setup

In todays Tribune Brian Carey makes a good point about pulling
Eurosport and NTLs pricing/service obligations.

I roughly quote-

"Both NTL and Chorus have been awarded price increases
by the regulator, part of the price application was the rise in
cost of programming content...ODTR sanctions a rate rise
yet has no power to decide content, aside from "must carry" channels.Yet if NTL is saving money by carrying CNBC rather than Eurosport on what basis is the price increase standing?."

So if it costs NTL less to carry CNBC (as is speculated) should'nt the cost of the service to us fall?
