Since when has rp anything to do with technology?

If you really were a "proper" role-player, you'd know that attempting to play a paper, pen and dice game over the net is sacrilage.

So you cincider sitting infront of the PSX and RolePlaying better ?

Plus, Dice and paper and all the LotR stuff isn't used where i RP.

It's textual, and everything about it is original.
From the player's to the character's to the ability's in which they invest themselves.

Since when has rp anything to do with technology?

Alot of RP is done online.
But alot of us irish people have NO idea how to USE pc let alone RP online.

Less of the flaming. Try to post more constructive.

Only know three people who roleplay? Prehaps you missed the other two sticky threads that talk about roleplaying convention where there are 100's of people who normally show up.

A lot of the people who post here have or do RP online, you have probably just alienated yourself from them. :)

    Now be nice.

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
If people want to learn they can, it's not advanced or particularly hard.

I only MUD and play a few rp webgames, nothing much more :)
Been playing the same mud for 3 years now.

Your lack of knowledge of other Irish Roleplayers has no bearing on the level of technological literacy in Ireland.

However, your assertion to role playing "in Yahoo!" makes me wonder about your own technical knowledge.

Since when was www.Eden-Era.com part of Yahoo! ?
Plus, Dice and paper and all the LotR stuff isn't used where i RP

The defence rests its case milord. Our client is clearly innocent through reason of insanity.

Where under the sun, moon and stars did you dig "all that LorT stuff" out of? Da Bounca never mentioned LOTR. He was talking about "in person" roleplaying vs. online roleplaying.

Unless you believe that dice, pen and paper are part of Tolkien's world?? These are things from the real world. Maybe you've heard of the real world? Its the weird place which is outside your computer screen? Yeah - y'know - like where the food is and all that?

Or maybe you meant that all non-online games are based in Middle Earth???

Either option, combined with your comment about "sitting in front of a PSX" is making me think that you know as much about roleplaying as you do appear to do about technology.

I had a look at that Eden game.

It sounds interesting, but the way you make your character is kind of tacky and ill-prepared. I know it allows you to create your own character , and it gives you the opportunity to add history and depth to the character, but surely they could come up with a proper form of registration. The method they use is basically , write whatever you want your character to be, post in on a bulletin board, then wait for them to email you. There is no assigning of points , messing around with your stats or rolling dice to see what hit points you have etc. Perhaps "in game" it achieves the proper role playing feeling(i seriously doubt that), but as for character creation is concerned, its lacking in appeal.

I may give it a shot though :)

Celt what mud do you use?

    hmmmm

well, several comments to be made here:

    1. I run a weekly DnD game with 9 players (so that's more than 3)

    2. of the 9, over half are more than computer literate - one web designer, 3 net/sys admins , 1 sap consultant, 1 I don't have a clue what he does but it is in computers. - I think that's a fairly technology capable bunch of peeps.

    3. We are currently planning on writing a MUD based on some classic tsr modules converted to 3e, maybe a warhammer one or two

    4. nearly all of us use computers in the preparation / recording of game data. I myself use a whole host of applications (photoshop, 'net resources, custom programs) when preparing a game.

    5. Most "freeform" online games are a little too freeform for my liking.

    6. Neverwinter nights is *finally* on it's way, and I've already started work on a portal site and several conversions on modules for online play (one of our group is currenly down under so this way he can join in again).

    7. I think perhaps you are the one being ignorant thinking that to roleplay you *must* be in the game that you happen to play. There are others out there.

as suggested, go to a con, you're bound to meet rp'ers who play online as well. if you only know 3 rp'ers and those are from an online game, you should really try to get out more.

ps. the Lotr rpg was called Middle Earth Role Playing (MERP) and came out after DnD. While it is true that most fantasy has roots in tolkiens works, I think you'll find that most fantasy rpgs are very different from Merp.

There are plenty of role players around, amongst which Vampire, The Masquerade LARP, Werewolf the Apocalypse LARP, playing once a month. Loads of conventions all over Ireland... May be not easy to find, but they are out there... If you need more info, contact me off list...

Well, as I've said before, there are a number of places to get convention info anyway....

This board for one, all of the cons since Gaelcon have been advertised and unless Hobbes horribly disagrees I intend to continue to do so.

www.gameeire.com is another place with lots and lots of info and there's also the igaming@yahoogroups.com mailing list.

There are a whole host of resources linked off the website and many, many people to answer your questions on the mailing list.

This has been another public service announcement :)

    Lir.
