    Im half thinking of putting a form of linux onto me old 7200. Theres an ancient version of MkLinux on it already, but im not even sure that works anymore.
    Whats the current best mac distro of linux? and would a 7200 handle it?

    Timod got Linux on a 6200 performa. If your looking for an iso of linux to put on it just gimme a url and I'll download it for you and send it your way. (Have access to a fairly fast leased line )

    BTW do you own a pair of Sandals, very important...

    I thought i could just go with some designer stubble , cos its a mac like :)

    Which distro are you talking about? As i said, i have an ancient version of MkLinux which had a nightmare of an install.
    LinuxPPC seemed better, but it would never install properly....could be my lack of sandals:)

    I know there's a PPC version of Debian linux available too.

    Last time I looked (I had a PowerBook a while back), Mandrake were working on a PPC version - it should have been released by now. The most active PPC Linux distro is probably, predictably enough, LinuxPPC, although Yellow Dog rates higher on Google/ODP.

    If you do decide to go with the beard could I also suggest a matching pony tail?

    Yeah, I have YellowDog Linux 1.2 up and running on a 6200. It was a bit of hassle installing, but in hindsight I reckon that the CD was dirty, and some of the packages were skipped :)
    (Long story)

    I've also used LinuxPPC and YellowDog on an iMac and SuSE on an 8500.

    If I was to rate them, I'd say SuSE, but yellowdog is probably better for an old machine.

    (They're all the same pretty much anyway except for the installers)

    yeh i should have said. Which has the best installer? cos i aint got the mad loonix skillz :)

    Not sure, but most new systems tend to have a GUI for installation, and I wouldn't recommend it. (you can pass kernel parameters and stuff to it but that's hassle)
    It's all to do with memory anyhow.

    if (RAM>32Mb)
    Get a copy of SuSE;
    else
    Get a copy of YellowDog

    (I know nothing about Debian)

    The base specs are here:
    http://www.applehistory.com/quickgallery.html?where=7200.html
    If it's only a 75Mhz processer, you're best to stick to yellowdog

    It would most definately be sacrilage if it showed a group of leggy blonde bimbettes but seeing as it shows Microsoft for the twonks they are I think it should most definately be allowed!
