There are a few outlets around (Electroplus in Dublin 9 springs to mind), and the quickest way to find them is probably through the Yellow Pages.

As far as Irish online retailors go, Tony (one of the regular contributors to this forum) has a site here -

    http://irelands-satellite.safeshopper.com/index.htm

He's got a very good offer on a Digenius digital receiver at the moment. Well worth checking out. He's also very helpful in terms of advice and info.

That cheap and cheerful reciever tony, have you tested it with the Irdeto FreeCAM and 5in1 with Funcard or DS9 with Silver?

funny enough, i was in ElectroPlus today looking for the system. The one that caught my eye was Manhatten 5550 CI - Seca + Motorised Dish 1m all for around €1000 without the installation.
althought its a new system and very reliable, im not prapered to spend that amount on it.

im not looking for a skydigibox system (whatever it's called) to make things clearer. those Echostar systems look nice and well priced Tony, is there any major difference between what the Manhatten and Echostar systems can do? oh yeah, whats a CAM card? :) (very new to this)

Well we have sold manhattan in the past and found the backup service to be unreliable, having said that the echostars must also be returned to Holland if theres a problem, touch wood there has not been one yet. Theres an echostar 3000 group on yahoo maybe you could send a mail there and get some more opinions, i'm sure they would be familiar with both makes. If you are on a budget the digenius will drive a h/h mount so it can be motorised. A cam module allows the receiver to decrypt pay tv, the viewing card fits inside the module which is plugged into the receiver, this allows you to use several different encryption systems at the same time.

    Hope this helps

Hi, Well I think cheap and cheerful is the wrong description it's really a good quality and very fast receiver :-)

I have not personally tested it but my friend who deals in this stuff and has bought a lot from me says it works fine on all combinations.

    REgards Tony

BTW I' know three in one but whats 5 in 1?

I was only including Beta and Nagra, which are only considered modified Irdeto.

As for "cheap and cheerful", ok maybe but How many 2 CI/CAM recievers can you get for <€400.
But the reciever has no real software/hardware support, like you guarenteed with the Hummy 5400/z.

    :)

Just curious thanks for info. The digenius has full support at www.digenius.de including future software upgrades and channel editing software. As for the humax I dont know what you mean I never sold these, perhaps you meant to "like you are guaranteed" so it guess it's just a typo. If this is the case perhaps you could edit the post.

    Thanks Tony

Sorry if being a little indirect.
Ah i resign, but the Humax is a full hackers box.

Do you have difficulty obtaining them Tony?
I would imagine that the Humax 5400 is still the most requested box around.

Not really had difficulty except for the old 5400 (without the z) apparently the story goes that the people who own Irdeto told them to desist from making them because of the easy hack for 3 in 1. The reason i stopped stocking them was the high return rate and the lack of enthusiasm at humax for sorting things out. The most recent one would not work with a NTV official Russian card and the guys at humax said "it works ok with our pirate card" anyway after badgering them they corrected the software but my customer was without his receiver for over two weeks which for me is unacceptable.

Irdeto made them stop, and then Irdeto come out with the FreeCAM, hehe.

Isnt NTV encrypted on Viaccess though, or is that a recent change?

I havent had any complaint with mine except heat, but thats my own fault as the +CAM patch over works the machine a bit.

Could you guys maybe point me towards an FAQ (website)somewhere, which describes current technologies, HW, etc.?

I've read the FAQ on Tony's site, and the FAQ on the ICDG site, but I need more info. of a more technical nature (hungry for knowledge!)...

    Any URLs etc. appreciated...

I have spotted the new Echostar DVR7000 receiver in this months Wotsat magazine. It has a 40GB HDD for recording stuff a lá Sky+. Also has an MP3 player. Bit strange but nice gimmick all the same. Of course this is at a price. I notice it's £999 Sterling!! Big dollars!!
