SKY + & Mirroring

Does anyone know how these two services work together?

If you've got a SKY + on your main Sub, and then install a mirrored sub, do you need to install a second SKY + for this if you want that service? Can it even be done?

Also, does SKY + require a seperate cable run, or will a single conection suffice - passing through the SKY + box to the DigiBox (In the way you might connect cable to your TV via a VCR)

Not quite sure what you mean. However, if you have Sky + and want to get a mirror sub you do not have to get a second Sky + box. The main reason that Sky introduced the mirror sub was to enable people to keep their original digiboxes without having to pay full price for a second sub.

Sky + requires two feeds from the dish, as it can record one feed while you are watching another. The box comes complete with a quad LNB. The Sky + uses 2 of the outputs. The original digibox requires a seperate feed from the dish which is why Sky left 2 free outputs on the LNB.

There is no way to loop through like you do with a VCR.

Let's see if I understand this.

If I've got SKY + on my Sub, I need two feeds from the dish. If I then get a mirrored sub, I need a further, single feed from the dish.

    How am I doing?

The main question is this: With the SKY + box providing the VCR functionality for one TV set, what about the mirror? Have I no method of taping a channel while watching another on the second set?

You are correct in this assumption. The mirror subscription is for a standard digibox. i.e. watch or tape(vcr) only one channel at a time.
You would need a second Sky+ box to enable you watch & record separately.
But Sky+ isn't available here yet, nor indeed is a mirror subscription. When these become available(hopefully very soon), it's very unlikely that Sky will subsidise a second Sky+ box for one customer, as the cost of these boxes is very high.
You want to watch 2 different channels on 2 different TVs, & record 2 different channels again? Very unusual. Do you get out much?
    Only joking. Hope this helps.

    Dave,

Don't forget the time spent on the Internet!

After I posted the question, I realised that in my rush to all things digital, I did in fact forget that I could always use a plain old VCR on any additional TVs, with the SKY + box allowing me the "watch one, tape one" function.

    That's my story anyway.
