    Hi

I were trying to set up local user accounts on an nt workstation. we edited the updatemode in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \SYSTEM
    \CurrentControlSet
    \Control
    \Update
we also added in a data type of REG_SZ, with the path to the system policies. when we go to logon as the test user it gives us a logon error saying "this computer is in manual policy mode. but the policy file cannot be found you will be logged on without the policy. (2)"

we have policy files done for the test user and all that. where are we going wrong??

    thanks
    xern

What you should do is change the UpdateMode to a decimal value of 2 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update.
Then add the following string value "NetworkPath" (caps are important) double click on that new string value add the path to the policy file e.g. c:\winnt\system32\ntconfig.pol

    Hope this helps...
