Question to the anti-immigration and pro-war crowd:
Since Ireland supported the war should we be obliged to take in Afghan refugees? Or can they all go f**k themselves?

Pakistan Now Bulging With 3.3 Million Afghan Refugees
    1-15-2

ISLAMABAD (PNS) - According to latest estimates by United Nations Pakistan is hosting 3346,161 (3.346 million) Afghan refugees including fresh arrivals of about 0.2 million following September 11 terror attacks on the United States.

"There are 3.34 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan, out of which about 1 million are children of age under 10," said a United Nations official talking to PNS.

Some 1.5 million are living in old refugee camps in and around 22 cities of NWFP and Baluchistan while 1.63 million others are residing outside refugee camps, he informed.

About the number of new arrivals to Pakistan from Afghanistan since September 11, he revealed, "0.197 million have crossed the border into Pakistan following terror attacks on World Trade Center and Pentagon."

It is worth mentioning that United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has already shifted some 114,000 to the new camps from urban areas and old camps in both NWFP and Baluchistan.

The UN agency is preparing 8 more new camps in NWFP and Baluchistan to accommodate more refugees. The camps will start functioning by the end of this week.

Meanwhile Afghans continue to flee US led coalition raids and shortage of food in Southern Afghanistan.

According to the border authorities, thousands have gathered at Pakistani border in NWFP and Baluchistan while UNHCR told, "Some 7,500 are waiting at Chaman border to enter Pakistan."

UNHCR is concerned about the fresh wave of refugees from Afghanistan as it hints at continuation of insecurity in Afghanistan.

The local authorities are not allowing even the vulnerable ones to enter the camp however, UN has provided food and shelter to the vulnerable people waiting in the no man's land.

UNHCR is planning to repatriate 1 million refugees back to their homeland after spring. The agency is also supporting internally displaced people (IDPs) in Afghanistan to return to their hometowns.

As an anti-immigration pro-war person I think we should.

We should take responsibility for our (Government's) actions and allow access for them.

One thing is for sure, even though the States caused this entire situation, you won't see a single refugee gain entry to the U.S.

Less than 200,000 of the 3.34 million refugees entered Pakistan after September the 11th, and you claim that the US caused this entire situation?

Did they cause those planes to crash into the WTC, Pentagan and Pennsylvania too?

Think about what you're saying man!

Please not that these figures no not include: internally displaced people within Afghanistan an would be refugees on the border with Pakistan; a similar number of refugees in Iran; a large number of people in other countries.

    'Only' 200,000. Get a life.

The USA and USSR / CIS have been interfering with the region since the 1970s. Originally the USSR wanted direct access to the Indian Ocean and the USA wanted to counter this. The local people are largely pawns in a latter day ' Great Game'

JustHallf seems to suffer from the mindset that blames the influx of 200,000 people into Pakistan as being an overhyped pinko liberalist plot to collectivise property and abolish personal property. Oh and the US and it's policy of supporting Israel was a major factor in the WTC bombings, now people can hide their heads in the Sand and pretend that this is not the case but, the sooner people face the reality of this situation the sooner attacks like the WTC can be consigned to humanity's past.

Did eveyone somehow miss how the Israeli's literally blew up a palestinian radio station, it's on Aertel page 119 I think. Repression of the "wrong kinds of media" is the mainstay of the totalitarian, of the despot who fears socio-political dissent.
