    Invention To 'Revolutionise' TV Soccer

A NEW invention that is set to revolutionise soccer coverage on television will take centre stage at the monthly meeting of Ballyhoo Inventors Club (BIC).

Inventor Shane Egan will unveil a scale model of his device, which is to be developed by a new IT firm in Ballyhoo, LipSink Teo. Shane explains: 'The idea came when we were looking into the possibilities of what the new digital TV sports channels might be needing to carry. They have acres of space or 'bandwidth' to have extra information, so we developed the LipSink gun. It's a special camera gun that you train on each player's head during a match, then LipSink uses pattern recognition to find out what they are saying. The software is able to lip-read what the players are shouting to each other or at the referee or linesmen, and it turns this into automatic subtitles on a separate digital channel.' They aim to be first to market in key overseas markets, such as ITV and Sky Sport's Andy Gray, and Shane says the device will even insert asterisks instead of the feck words. BIC's meeting next Tuesday will take place in the blue room upstairs in the Old Mill interpretative centre at 8 p.m., and there will be an update afterwards on the club's entry for 'Robot Wars'. -
