    Lads

Bit of advise, my girlie rang me there last nite and said that at around 8pm a guy rang the buzzer on the flat and wanted to know who the bill name was. The new girl said she no longer lived there, so he proceed to say that they would need to change the name on the bill.

He said that they would have to reconnect, this would cost 20 Euro and that he wanted to be let in to take back the decoder box!! So the new girl said if she gave him the 20 now could they keep the box, he said ok, but someone would have to call today, she asked if he could call in the evening, but he said now , we finish at 5.30pm (remember he called at 8pm!!)

Anyway, I think this is pure shi*e.

    Can they do this??

I think Ntl can because they retain ownership of the box but with Sky all the equipment belongs to the user once they sign on for a one year contract.

yep i have to agree - ntl still own that box because you or previous resident were paying ntl rental for the decoder. it is the same with the cabling on the house as far as i know ntl own that as well - all be it on your property it is still theirs!

so they have every right to come looking for the decoder - i will say one thing - ensure that you get your name on the the bill or they will have something else to say about that also. And make sure when your name goes on to that bill that the decoder is there also - another big no no in ntls books -- is there ever anything good in ntl books ? - one wonders? answers on a postcard please?

Jessica-Don't NTL or Cablelink as it was have a "wayleave" to carry that cable across peoples property irrespective of whether you are a customer or not?
Me thinks they'd be in a spot of bother if that wayleave was gone-no doubt it's a 999 year lease or summat?
Best all leave a codicill(spelling:D ) in our wills for our Great, great,great,great,great,great.....Grand childer to end it:D

My brother recently bought a new house. The previous owners had NTL analogue and a really crappy installation (I mean cables up walls, under wooden floors - a right mess!).

Anyway, he got the usual call from NTL of "Would you like to get NTL Digital? It has RTE." Of course he knew from my sister just how crappy RTE on NTL UK was (Channel 4021870632 and something... ). He decided just to get ITV Digital and let me put up a new RTE aerial for him.

ITV Digital worked perfectly for him on this aerial:

For RTE, he naturally needed something to take a bigger bite out of the ether:

    -> http://www.david.laverty.com/aerials/bst-all.jpg
---> (That's my own - he has an exact replica)

Anyway, I digress! Basically NTL never bothered to collect the old analogue box. It's contents are now filed away into my components trays. A soldering iron and a hammer made short work of it. The same goes for a Sky box he found in his loft. :D (http://www.david.laverty.com/aerials/stb.jpg).

As for the cabling, it was ripped completely out of his house, ripped from the outside walls. The cable was ripped out of the garden and pulled to snapping point out of the conduit in the street (takes some force, but it gives way after time). So basically, there is no more NTL in that house!

Ah, ha! My plans are almost complete - now I must devise a machine to block out the Sky!!!! Muwhahahaha!!! :D:D

Some sort of chicken wire dome should to the trick... ...hmmm.... :D

Can you please make sure that you only block out the Sky for your own house? :)
