UK DTT in Donegal

    Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has experience of DTT in Donegal. I'm thinking of taking my Digibox with me next time I go there for a weekend. We've a house in Downings, Rosguill.

We've an old renovated house high up in the mountain, so I'm figuring we might actually get a good DTT signal there. We are actually high enough to get a line of sight look at the new Fanad RTE repeater.

Great AM reception up there, get most UK local variations. :D

    hi there,
You know I was up in Letterkenny a while back at a weddin'.
Now it was a wild affair-plenty of Drink taken and the usual merryment:)
It was so mad I never minded the aerials around there-but I did notice UTV and Channel four were like a mirror-so clear.
When I arrived back down here in the (not so sunny today) south East,i'd wished I'd brought my ITV digital box with me to Letterkenny to see what I'd get.

No doubt Derry being not so far away, what I saw was probably coming from something analogue without a DTT tx attached???

No matter what anyone says anymore-I've got ITV digital in North Wexford ( direct from Presely in Pembokeshire) and thats at least a 100 miles away- over a good seapath-but a long distance!

So bring your ITV dig box up that hill and let us know!

    I sure will.

According to the map, I'm on the fringe of DTT reception where our town is (Downings is outside it, but Carrigart is apparently in it). But we are right at the very top of the hill, so I'm reckoning that we should have a fairly clear path to the TX (which is digital - I checked :D ).

If it works, I'll be last stop for those DTT signals before the Atlantic Ocean. :D

(Arrr, matey, got me a fine Donegal Catch. What's on the telly!) :D:D

I know from a friend in Moville, that they can get pin-sharp DTT.

You might be fine along the coast of Lough Foyle, but have not heard of any reports any further inland or up hills.

    Best of luck Sir!:) :D:)

You should get UK DTT in East Inishowen either from Limavady or Derry right up to Greencastle. Forget it once u head inland to Carndonagh - not even TV3 or Today FM from Holywell hill get in there. U should be ok in Buncrana as it is fairly close to Derry but most aerials in the town seem to be GRoup A for Brougher Mountain.

Deflector systems have to be used in Carndonagh, Malin & Ballyliffin & Clonmany. The RTE transposer is in Malin. The terrain so bad round Clonmany that they have to have their own low power relay for RTE/T4 - no TV3 in this area at all. The word is it will be added to the deflector systems there. The DS are mostly crap up there and no CH5 either until u head towards Derry or can get DTT from Limavady. I know as I lived there for 4 months last year!

I can actually get an okay TV3 picture from Holywell, even though I don't have an aerial pointing at it. It comes in on the BBC antenna which is about 30 degrees out from pointing at Holywell Hill, wrong group of aerial, wrong polorisation, and wrond type of Amplifier.

I'm just hoping that I will get some muxes. :D
