Is a second dish worth it ?

I've got the standard digital dish (sky world & UK Ftv card) & am wondering whether its worth investing in a second dish to point to another satellite - I've heard loads of talk about hotbird & some of the other Euro satellite's at various degrees (I'm not a techie :) )

I don't really want to spend a fortune on a new dish if there's only a handful of channels available without subscription - so my question would be - is it worth thinking about it or should I just be content with what I've got ?

    Cheers

    Andi

I have never seen dishs so cheap, even free and LNb's can be gotten for <40Euros (will a font foundary have a £-Euro replacement?) and if you are not willing to spend money then forget it.

I used to watch ITV and Fox via my Digi box but it gets slightly annoying when sky dump your "other channels" every couple of weeks.

Thanks - I had'nt realised that the prices had come down - thought I was looking at a few hundred for starters, so I'll probably have a go.

There's load of stations from all over europe on other satellites, but another dish is not whats needed, mpeg, cams, cards etc, are and the cost rises anything upto £1000+

I have all the gear, its awesome.. you think sky is good.??

What Lunchy fails to tell you is that all providers are currently changing their encryption systems and theres not even a sniff of someone cracking Via2 and Seca2, Irdeto2 and Conax have been beaten but only the commercial peeps have access to it and are not going to make such info available.
And videoguard's price has been halfed making it very attractive to the smaller providers.

It will be FTA for a long long time to come.

the only channels available at the moment are the sex channels and they are changing their keys like their going out of fashion, and they too are changing encryption.

it would a complete waste of money to get into satellite piracy at the moment.
wait until the summer before making heavy investments.

    Thanks Chernobyl,

Should say that I'm in no way looking to get into piracy or even cheat the system - sorry if my first post implied that.

I'm mainly looking for European sport for me & Euro Drama etc for my wife (she's Spanish & speaks French, German too). I'll have to investigate the pricing - I certainly don't mind paying a reasonable price, but as I said, I had this notion that the dishes & subscriptions were an horrendous price.

    Thanks again

You will find spain catered for on hipsat but thats a Nagra encryption, that is not likely to change soon, France is Astra1 but that encrypted in Viaccess, and soon to go Via2 and Germany is everywhere and mostly FTA although there is the Cidedom PPV movie package and Premiere sport (all encrypted).

    FTA like analogue is dying.

If you are looking to get the bestt from an FTA system, then to have a motorised dish is advisable, else stick with the Digi box.
    ;)
