I was thinking of subscribing to Sky digital as Chorus do not have digital available in Cork.
However Chorus have now contacted me to say that the can provide digital service to me .. via MMDS
Is there any difference between MMDS digital and Sky digital ?

I remember Chorus contacted me in June 2000 asking me to sign up for their new MMDS digital service which started shortly. Their words. However it is now 2002 and MMDS is still not available in Tipperary. I was promised unlimited internet, telephone calls, and a wide range of channels. I waited and then signed to sky. I have many neighbours who were waiting too. They are now with sky.

Chorus promised Digital to my parents in 1999 'within three months'. When I moved out and got my own Chorus subscription, I was told the same 'three months'. At the same time Chorus had a national radio and TV campaign that left many people believing that digital TV was there for the subscribing.

The truth is that Chorus are not in any position to claim a digital service on a national basis. I don't know about Cork, but neither my parents or I (Kildare and Laois) have seen any sign of digital. I recently checked the document that Chorus submitted to the ODTR for their price rise - they promise to have my area connected to digital in the first quarter 2004!

I have just got Sky and am very pleased. I also got rooftop aerials for the 4 Irish terrestrials - now I can record and watch different programs, and also have high quality around the house. Other than a few problems I had in getting my viewing card for Sky, I can say I am many times happier with Sky than with Chorus.

They would say that, chorus dont want to be forking out for digital boxes when they can give out crappy 10yr old boxes for nothing. And no one knows the difference between chorus digital and sky digital hardly anyone has a digital chorus box.
sorry for being harsh but its the truth and im sure all the regular members who post here agree:)

To put Rebel 18's post in three words:
    Chorus is Crap
My views on Chorus would be much worse

There are actually quite a few people in Cork with the Chorus digital box. All of the people I know with it are receiving it via an MMDS aerial. I have not heard of anyone getting it through the cable.

I have used Chorus digital at a friends house. The picture quality is not bad at all, although I remember watching Lethal Weapon on Sky One and it did seem particularily blocky. The sound is in stereo (a major breakthrough for Chorus). The EPG is not a patch on Sky's. Changing channels takes much longer than it does on Sky. The choice of channels is limited compared to Sky.

There is a comparison between the two systems on the main ICDG page but it is a bit out of date. It also says that Chorus offer internet through the digibox. When I tried to access this I got a Coming soon screen. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Isn't it sad that there are always these Sky -v- (Other Platform) debates on just about every forum. I hear Sky -v- ITV Digital debates all the time and they are just the same old stuff all the time.

Tell me, does anyone have a photo of an MMDS aerial for the Ministry? If you do, please post one somewhere I'll find it. Cheers! :)
