dr strangelove is a clasic. absolute masterpiece. also, anything else by kubrick is guranteed to be good.

    2001; a clockwork orange; the shining; barry lyndon; full metal jacket; lolita (not the one); sparacus (sp?);

...there all on dvd. all amazing.

    also...
one flew over the cuckoos nest -- jack nicholson in a mental home.. (on DVD)
rumble fish -- moody gang film. classic (on DVD)
citizen kane -- dont meen to state the obvious. but just in case. (on DVD)
Pi -- recent. dark and wierd. not for everyone, but I like it. (I think on DVD)
jesus son -- drug film. wierd, very good (dont know)
hurly burly -- another drug film; with sean pen and kevin spacy. even better. (dont know)
buffalo 66 -- guy kidnaps a girl and makes her pretend shes his wife. but its good, not silly

.... thats all I can think of at the moment.... apart from R.O.T.O.R... which is just so gawd damn awful, its actualy funny. one of the best films I have ever seen. but you'll never find it.

Rennt Lola - Run Lola Run must be experienced in subtitled german only. the Dubbing ruins the emotion
Der Kreigner und die Kaiserine - Noticing a pattern yet :) Tommy Tykwer is a genius
High Fidelity - the book too :)
American Beauty - Thomas Newman soundtrack :) and the cinamtography
Ghost World - Very true. Haven't seen anything like this in the cinema in ages
Ameros Peros - Brillent. Makes you feel like there is a force or spirit in the world
Dazed and Confused - Not so much anymore but when i was younger. Its the type of film that made me want to grow up and experience life

I'm sure there is at least 10 more. I'll add them when i remember.

There is only one real film for me, and I only watched it a few months ago, out of boredom.

    Shawshank Redemption

That movie plays like poetry (alliteration intended ;) )

Everything down to it's classical soundtrack (which is on my current playlist might I add). Such a performance from Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins.

I could go on and say things like
    - Aliens
    - The Matrix

But TBH they only dirty this post, so I'll stop now.

    ;-phobos-)

The Matrix while a visually striking film with a nicely convoluted and post modern plot was acted terribly. It's definately overrated. I've seen it twice and found alot of it tiresome the 2nd time round.

Clerks is a beauty, as is Dazed and Confused. And 'Being John Malkovich' restored my faith in film again. And Das Boot. And the original dutch version of a film I cant remember the name of, but they remade it with Kiefer Sutherland and made a real bollocks of it. Man looking for girlfriend trapped underground anyone?

The Vanishing. Most downbeat ending ever.

Which version of the Vanishing? There were two.

Like the man said - the original dutch version.
Way to not follow the thread.

pretty much anything by the Coen Brothers...

O' Brother Where Art Thow? (sp?)
    Fargo
    The Big Lebowski
    Raising Arizona

...and a load more. check up imdb.

The Shawshank Redembtion is good, but, IMO, its not that great. beautifuly made and all, but not something you would go back to and watch more than once or twice. the magic fades.

..the ends amazing. but again, only really the first time.

Off the top of my head, The Long Good Friday.

    Best gangster movie EVER.

The Contender - Very good political drama
Unbreakable - This is one of my films of 2001
Battle Royale - Japanese Lord of the flies
Dr. Strangelove - A classic, and very apt given the situation in India/Pakistan
The Fifth Element - An Exceptional Sci-Fi Film from Luc Besson
Leon - The Professional - If you can see the extended International version of this its well worth it
O Brother where art thou ? - Coen Brothers at their best
Almost Famous - A really uplifting film (imho)
Young Frankenstein - This is from when Mel Brooks actually made good films
Grosse Point Blank - I just love this film
Kellys Heroes - Well its got Clint and any film that has a hippy driving a Tank in WW2 has to be watched
Being John Malkovich - Intelligent film and any film where Cameron Diaz actually makes herself look ugly has to be seen
Fight Club - A classic that gets better everytime you see it.
Run Lola Run - Brilliant German Film.
Dark City - A film that came out before the Matrix and is 10 times better and far more intelligent than that more commercial film.

Hmmm I could go on all day that should keep you busy though ADREN :)

    Gandalf.

    Brotherhood of the Wolf
