    Do any of the filenames have spaces? If so try this.

    Explorer / Tools / Folder options / Filetypes and locate the type you're trying to play. Click Advanced, highlight Play and then EDIT. Even if it's already there browse for Media Player, you need to add a variable setting to the end of the command line. Normally for open it would be "%1" (Include the quotes, otherwise spaces ain't going to work). But on mine for Media player it actually uses "%L" for Play,

    "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Play "%L"
    but I haven't seen that before (Not much experience with XP before). If that doesn't work log in with an account that works, follow the same steps and paste the command line out to another text file. Then login with a 'broken' account and paste the command line in.
