Optimum configuration: Digibox + FTA receiver + Motorized Dish

Could anyone tell me What is the optimum configuration for joint use of a Digibox and normal digital satellite receiver together with a motorized dish? Is it possible to combine more than one LNB with a motorized dish? (I have been told that this is impossible because of mutual interference between the beams.)

At present I have a (Panasonic) Digibox connected to the LNB via the loop through sockets on a (Manhattan 5000) receiver. For most of the time the system is pointed to Astra 2 (Digibox), but I regularly watch channels with the Manhattan on Astra 1 and Hotbird, with occassional use of FTA on other satellites such as Thor (BBC World), Telstar 11 (MSNBC) and Telstar 12 (US CNN, Headline News).

Using the loop-through LNB I need to switch off the Manhattan to receive some channels on the Digibox and I need to switch off the Digibox to receive some channels on the Manhattan. This is unwieldy. Although I realise that the best solution would be to have a separate dish for the Digibox, I can think of 2 intermediate possibilities:

    1. an active amplifier/splitter for the LNB just before the receivers, connecting the LNB independently to the 2 receivers

    2. 2 or more LNBs pointing to the same satellite (but I see little advantage to this over 1.)

    3. 2 or 3 LNBs, where in the normal position one would point to Astra 2 and be connected to the Digibox and the other(s) be pointed to Astra1 (and Hotbird). I would then use one of these LNBs for my occasional hop to the other satellites.

I would be grateful for anybody's advice on this.
