If I put a dish in my garden in a place where people walk past, at a low level, let's say shoulder heigt, is this dangerous? Would the people walking past get radiated?

Is it dangerous to stick your hand in between the LNB and the dish when it is switched on, would this not damage your hand? (I got a small 'static' shock once from doing this, but the fact that we are dealing with Microwaves got me thinking...)

Well then, just walking around is dangerous..with a satellite @ every degree (on average) from 45° E to 45° W.

although the waves do get magnified and accelerated after bouncing of the dish, i doubt any amount of exposure to them is dangerous.

I always thought the waves were electromagnetic and not microwaves, in the,can i use my dish to cook the dinner too sense.

    1) The only danger is that your tv viewing will be interrupted as people go by. ;)

    2) No it is not dangerous. The dish is 'on' all the time, even if there is no LNB in it. The LNB, when powered, does not transmit anything, just receives the very weak signals, amplifies and lowers their frequency for sending to your receiver.

You will get a static shock of anything metallic (i.e. dish) and grounded if you have a buildup of static electricity in your clothes, e.t.c.

The satellites are microwaves, but hundreds of times lower powered than a microwave. You'd die of starvation long before your dinner got 1*C hotter than what it was ;).
