On screen channel logo's-do you like them or hate them?

I am talking about, the Sky one logo, on the top left of that channel, the awfully bland UK Gold etc, etc.
I would have thought , there was no need for them, considering, a quick press of the select button tells you what you are watching-unlike analogue.
Ok they may have to be there,so if we are making bootleg video's-the source is obvious?

When RTE come on I hopes they do not go down this road.

    Hey mm,

I think that BBC1 and BBC2 had these logos on them when Sky Digital first launched, however there was a huge public outcry and the disappeared very soon after.

Most of these logos (DOGs - Digital On-screen Graphics) are easy enough to ignore, but you know the way people are, they'll complain about anything. I've never not watched something on Sky, TV3, TG4, etc. because of the logo.

As you say, it will be interesting to see if RTE either follow the pack and add the logos or follow the main BBC's and forget about the logos.

But then you have the idiots at Eurosport, who take a digital feed, and slap their logo in the corner, and then recompress the whole thing for digital broadcast. What do you get? Twice the compression, artefacts flying all over the place: All for the sake of a stupid little logo.

I actually like the on air bugs, but not the all-dancing versions on the various MTV channels, far too distracting.

My biggest annoyance is the interactive buttons which appear on the sports and Sky News channels (and now BBC too). I know they wish to advertise their interactive services and i fully accept that BUT when I choose that i don't want it and use the 'back up' button to remove the intruding logo from my screen, they plant it back on after an ad-break.

Head and wall have connected too often for it to be good for my health, so does anyone know of any way i can permanently disable this feature?

They're a pain but some are worse than others, TV3s'
is subtle whereas the logo on TCM is a right eyesore esp.
when the movie is being shown in widescreen format.

Anyway I think most of us know what channel we're
    slumped in front of!

    Mike.

What annoys me the most about digital satellite T.V. is when some channels (usually the music channels) go out of sync with the sound, making it look like a dubbed Japanese Godzilla movie.

Also for some reason, I don't know if anyone else has this problem but my Sky DigiBox Sometimes decides to switch itself off from time to time.

Although some of the logos can be ugly, I think its important that they stay. I hope that RTE/Net2/TG-4 put logos on screen when they join Sky in April. How many times when you watch RTE or TV3 have you pressed the "i" button on the Sky remote to see what channel or programme you are watching?? I know i do it a lot especially when the ad breaks come on. (I actually watch only RTE/TV3 for the news)

i think it is about time these DOGs were gotten rid of. if i want to know what channel i am watching on the satellite i can press the select button and see for myself.

the time on channels like Sky News should also be gotten rid of. again i can press the select button to see what time it is.

as for those active and quiz logos. could the lovely people at Sky give us an option in the settings menu to turn these things off. they are awful looking things. sure i can get rid of them by pressing backup, but when i am recording

Well I don't mind DOG's too much but I hate the extra bits used to describe programmes on MTV channels, etc and the constantly changing playlists on EMAP channels like Q, Kerrang! etc.

I think the time should stay on Sky News but the annoying headline banner taking up a large chunk at bottom of screen should be abolished.

    Basically I like the DOG's provided they're not animated/moving

The on-screen red button on the Sky Sports channel is a pain - even worse when the words "Active"or "Quiz" appears before it.

It would be great just to press a button on the remote to hide these and then when i was pressed they would re-appear should you wish to select them.

Can we have the channel logos (if really necessary) in a single colour ie. white (example Granada Plus logo) so that they blend into the backgound as much as possible.

I'm going to check if i can program my 'pronto' to automatically send the Backup signal every few mins. I hate the bloody things and never bother using them.

Although, as a Sky Digital viewer, I agree that DOGs are annoying and unneccessary, remember that a lot of these feeds are used by cable companies where there IS no Select/"i" button so it's useful there - of course that said, most new TVs allow you to "label" the channels so er..I've just defeated my own argument it seems! ;)

Back to sleep I guess....Happy Xmas all! :):)

The DOGS are here to stay. When you're watching a match in the pub, Sky want you fully aware it's on their channel. When you're standing in a queue somewhere and the tv is tuned to a news channel, Sky want you to know it's there channel. WHen the kids are watching tv in a friend's house, Flextech sure as hell want them to know it's Nickelodeon they're tuned to. Plus far too many are still on analogue cable feeds.

My bugbear is STILL the interactive buttons. Yesterday, annoyed to the point of screaming at the little 'quiz' logo continually reappearing at the bottom of my Sky Sports screen, i tried a new tact. I went in and TOOK PART in the quiz. Although i had absolutely no interst inb doing so, the reasoned thinking on my part surmised that on the web, cookies remember this kind of thing and don't keep asking you to take part. So, i hoped the sky receiver would remember i had played the quiz...you're waiting with breath baited aren't you?

Sorry, not a hope. Did i imagine a two-fingered salute when the little f**ker reappeared at the bottom of the screen when i came out of the interactive service?

Raging, i rang Sky. Only took me about 25 minutes to get through too! 'No sir,' the lady with the attractive Scottish accent informed me, 'it is impossible to remove these logos from the screen.'

If ntl's digital service wasn't so diabolical i'd subscribe to the sports package through them.
