The Slate has been banned in UCD

I got a message today, telling me that The Slate has been banned from distribution in UCD. Maybe it's because two issues ago, it showcased three, yes three, UCD related stories. Needless to say, the incidents were very embarassing for the college and The Slate's wit wasn't appreciated by the screws.

The Star, The Evening Herald and The Event Guide are allowed on campus so why not The Slate?

I presume Dada one of those issues included the Garry Santry Affair in the GSB!? UCD top brass are alittle touchy about that one alright:rolleyes:

Independant Newspapers (both the Indo & EH) had a rather disgraceful splash on the above affair, where they pictured a man suppossed to be the lecture in question- running from his home to his car with trenchcoat and briefcase covering his identity, with a caption something along the lines of..."Santry fleeing Blackrock home upon Press arrival"

Considering the man had left the country approx. 5 weeks before hand, the above picture was wholly innacurate.

Nothwithstanding this Independant Newspapers should be banned based on their crapiness (except "Get Connected" & the Thurs Biz Supplement)

No doubt the banning of anything in UCD (good or bad) wont go down without some disquiet!

Now I'm going to have to go into town to pick up The Slate. It's pretty lame of the college to ban it, in fairness, the Tribune (forget the Observer) published that story about Gary Santry first, it came out in the Indo a few days later but they had already been sitting on it for about 3 months. The point is: everyone knows so what's the big deal? They simply don't dig The Slate's crazy stylings.

Theoretically, the Arts Block could kick out the Tribune because it's only there due to good will and there can't be a rule against on-campus media only because of the slew of Freshers' supplements thrown around throughout the year from the big papers.

It's just kind of dumb if you ask me. It's always great to arrive in one day and it's there to hand. Then again, it mightn't be true.

Yeah, the Evil Gerald started two years ago in UCD. The college doesn't mind it though, it only insults students, not the college.

As far as I know, the Trinners story was true, as were the UCD stories. The Slate may be irreverent but I don't think it makes things like that up - The Slate got those UCD stories from the Tribune.

Still, does anyone know if it's really been banned in UCD?

The Slate is deadly.

They did a college round-up thing in September where they ripped the piss out of the major colleges including UCD.

Eh, they didn't do the Santry thing I think, which makes it even more rediculous. I'm sure this is the doing of wossisface of the Arts block, that fellow what looks after the building. Anyway, they covered the BJ for DJ in the bar story, prostitutes on campus I think and I think something else. In both issues, a picture of Fungus was in it. Hehehe, jerk. If The Slate is all it takes to become notorious among the staff in UCD, the Trib better get its act together and piss the college off even more!
