Is it a Worthless Cup

OK, so Man U, Arsenal and the Pool probably arent that interested in the Worthington cup, but for the rest, where a place in Uefa Cup is the highlight of a season (aka Ipswitch) surely the cup still has a place, and is worthy of a Uefa place?

Most teams have a big squad these days, and I think you can register 25 players or so for the cup competitions. So each tieam is entitled to play any combination of these players.
For example when Blackburn beat Arsenal 4-0 on Tuesday, arsenal made about 9 changes from their successful league team.
Yet there front 2 was Wiltord and Kanu? Not exactly a bunch of amatuers?

I know Chelsea, Tottenham, and Blackburn would love 2 win it, (the 3 confirmed semi finalists).

So is it still a tropy you can be proud of, or is it a mickey mouse cup?

the english league is not made up of liverpool, arsenal and man utd.
the worthington cup is still the biggest distributor of wealth among the lower divisions, 80 million a year.
just because for some teams its a 4th priority after europe, league and FA cups, doesnt mean it is worthless.
it may well be the only cup spurs have won in the last 10 years, but i still feel the league cup has a place, and while there is still a place in europe then it is a cup that teams will go for.
i find it funny that teams put out a second string team, and they still have 11 internationals on the pitch.
imagine how watford feel now knowing they may just be 3 games from a place in europe.
come to think of it, think how i feel with spurs only 3 games from europe.
no, only the elite think the cup is worthless.
the usual attitude from supporters and clubs that think they are too good for it.
like man utd missing the FA cup 2 years ago. who the f*ck do they think they are.
    worlds biggest and best club?
obviously not. biggest bunch of wa*kers i say.

Of course it is worthless, if the bigger clubs, ie 3/4 of the premiership did not think so they would give a toss about it and put out a half decent team.
It is no wonder that spurs are interested, it is there only ever chance of getting within an asses roll of europe.

Give me another time that blackburn will beat Arsenal 4-0??

As for the man u, issue, give me another team that has won so much in the last 10 years??

They should not have opted out of the FA cup, but then again if it happens to another other team in england will they not expect the same?? (not that it will anyway!!) :D

Any compo that Spurs can do well in is obviously pretty lacking in quality :p

this would obviously be the 3/4 of the premier that dont get into europe is it?
    bigger clubs?
how many big clubs in england? 6, maybe 7?
funnily enough i only know of about 5 teams that didnt put out a full strength side. as for blackburn beating arsenal 4-0 again, well, its a funny ol game isnt it.
whod have expected them to be west ham 7-0.
    bet you didnt.
you dont make any valid points, and the points you do make are untrue and unbacked.

and thats why newcastle, aparently one fo the big teams in england who dont give a toss about it, fielded a full strength squad, and lost.
no change in the capital for them there then.

when was the last time you managed to win in london?
    29 games.
    dear oh dear oh dear.
still i was looking forward to watching your face as we beat you in the final, but you couldnt even get that right.
newcastle last won a cup in what?
    the 50's?

WWman, in the immortal words of the highbury faithful:

"Shìt cups, you only win shìt cups
Shìt cups, you only win shìt cups"

    :p:p

Anyway, yeh, of course the league cup has a place. Its a gateway to europe and as wwman said it is still a great distributor or wealth. I havent got the facts handy but in recent years, havent nationwide teams done quite well in it? I seem to remember a lot of premiership teams playing away to smaller teams and thus ensuring quite a large gate.

And to the ManUre fan, look at liverpools record from the 80's. you still cant top that. sit down:)

Well as an Arsenal fan yes I was disappointed that we got seven shades of sh!te kicked out of us the other night. I came into work and responded to the slags with the sure it was only the "Worthless Cup" comments. However if Arsenal had thumped Blackburn 4-0 then I would be the first to bring it up in conversation.

I think Arsenal and the bigger teams should play their strongest teams for this competition, I do think its a disgrace that they don't. As for Scum not playing in the FA Cup a couple of years ago that was really pathetic (just like they way they played in South America).

    Gandalf.

(PS the only trophy that Spuds will win is the 1st Division Championship the year after they are relegated.)

Liverpool plainly don't think the Worthington Cup is worthless
after all they won it last season!

My own feelings are that it should be for the Nationwide
League teams only, give them a chance of European glory,
Wolves win the UEFA cup sounds good to me! :)

    Mike.

First up 3 club do not make up 3/4's of the premiership.

    Second ..
Erm actually they beat them 3-1 at highbury a couple of seasons ago, in the premiership.
(December 1997, Arsenal's double winning year)
Also Blackburn hold the record for Arsenals most crushing defeat
0-7 also away from home, oh yeah, and your full team didnt beat us a highbury this season either.

    So dont talk crap.

Either your not much of an Arsenal fan, or you have a selective memory.

    X

I think that they should make the Worthington cup into a cup comp that includes Scottish, English, Welsh (and maybe Irish) clubs...
it may make more money for smaller clubs!?! :(

Aye, and I enjoy tossing over ur head every year we win the league, again and again and again!!!
Any compo that Spurs can do well in is obviously pretty lacking in quality
    HA HA HA excellent!! :p

Another historian!!! 12 years and counting......
Liverpool plainly don't think the Worthington Cup is worthless
    AKA the plastic treble!
Erm actually they beat them 3-1 at highbury a couple of seasons ago, in the premiership.
When I was in school 3 - 1 is 2, 4 -0 is 4, there is a big difference between 2 and 4. As all scousers would know that goal difference makes all the difference when winning the league!!

Either your not much of an Arsenal fan, or you have a selective memory.
    TWAT!!
    [edited for crappy spellings]
You would want to edit for grammer too, bigger twat

I smell ANOTHER league win this year!!

I do actually, It is the one, the only, Champions, Man Utd!! Ta da

Thanks for all the concern lads, I know it is xmas but ye are WAY to nice worrying about Man U.

But then again, if you ever look at comments from Arsenhol Wanker, David "Desperate" O'leary or "im having a heart attack" Houllier, who do they always want to catch, emulate etc etc etc. It ain't kidderminster harriers!

So lads please, pull ur foreskin off your heads and look at the the way we have come back before.. you have been warned.

I actually got Utd at 10-1 there last Monday so if we win again, then instead off pissing money down the drain I will actually win a few hundred!!

Actually, maybe ye know, say that bet I put on there, if I win I get 210 punts, do they automatically convert to Euro or will they rip me off and give me 210 punts?

    Gwan United!

Jesus, cannot u not make better points that the muck u are spreading?? You post twice, both are useless dribble.

Obviously you do not support a team that can even get near the Worthless cup. Now that is intelligence!! :D
