Seeing as Blitzkrieger has posted a "really crap ads" thread, I thought the opposite might be interesting

Ads that you found really funny, entertaining or even made you want to go and find something about the product

    To start the thread:

Current Finches advert (the guy in the desert)

Current Heineken campaigns ("if Heineken made...", the pain barrier)

And anything involving Paul Daniels being mauled by a lion.

I quite like the Smirnoff one with the piano playing dog, and the Tenants "I could murder a pint" one. Well, I did at the beginning but after you've seen them so many times you get sick of all ads.

Anyone remember that Snickers ad from a couple of years ago?

*American Football game, guy gets tackeled badly...

    Coach: Hey, hold on
    Guy: I'm fine, I'm fine
    Coach: Where are you?
    Guy: I'm on the pitch.
    Coach: And who am I?
    Guy: You're the coach.
    Coach: And who are you?

*Guy looks puzzled... Then leans over to the coach.

    Guy: I'm... BATMAN!
Coach: Ok, thats it, you're outa here...

*Shows the guy sitting at the sides munching a snickers bar (Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a snickers!)
The guy is looking around with a towel hanging from his head like a cape.
Turns to the massive football player next to him, puts his hand on his knee...

Guy: Hello good citizen, my name is BATMAN!
    Big Guy: *Stares blankly...
Guy: You could be my assistant!
    Big Guy: *Stares blankly...
Guy: Would you like that? Would you like to ride with BATMAN???

Good ads are like honest politicians not many around and the few that are tend to be underrated becasue of the bad uns.

The only ad that I can think of thats just right is very rarely
seen and I cant even remember what product/service its
selling but its the New Zealand Bugger! ad, set in the
Kiwi countryside featuring the kind of silly moments that
could be the basis of a Fast Show sketch.

    Mike.

its for some ford make of car, and its hilarious all right. Its about the car being so powerful it causes all kinds of accidents. and then a dog gets to say bugger, and it has you in stitches at that stage.

I must however Thank Angelwhore sincerely for reminding me of the best ad ever made, THANK YOU!!!

Yeah that Australian add had me in stitches when i saw it in the cinema, i don't think i ever saw it on T.V.

It WAS shown on TV actually. A number of stations carried it ;- I saw it as recently as last week... on RTÉ.

well I wish to defend myself by saying that I havent been in Ireland since September, but if you come up with documented evidence that it was shown then you can go fück yourself ;)

'Well I like elephants but I couldnt eat a whole one'

Guinness ads, and no its not patriotism cos I think it tastes like p1ss

Fox sports regional ads that are aired in america, if you have seen them you know what Im on about.

The Surf radio ad, ' Cos if you're not happy...' 'Dont go there'

The one on kerrang at the moment where this guy goes into a guitar shop with a box with loads of switches and says 'I bought this last week........... I dont know what it is'

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

bugger one was for the toyota landcruiser... they hold an unbelivable market share (80% of 4x4s iirc) with it in australia/nz hence the ad :)

one of my favourites is the smirnoff ad where the man and woman are running from some dude and the scene keeps changing.. really well done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

I always liked that Guinness ad where your man did the funny dance while waiting for his pint to settle. After a bad week I can relate.

    That's Bacardi Breezer, GS.

shows how much tv i watch doesnt it, your quite right as per usual bard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Da Bounca

All the Carlsberg ads are funny, so too are the Fosters ones.

budweiser have good ones, but they get a bit tiresome after the first couple times u see them.

GAP have the best ads though. Very creative and artisitc and always use cool music.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,478 ✭✭✭GoneShootin

    on the GAPS thread

they did one where this skinny chick is playing an Angus Young SG Special to the into of Black in Black. Its pretty good, but shes using a cable to connect to the speaker, where angus uses radio link. AAAAAA the infamy....

    im a geek....

I'm not sure if this is on TV yet (i dont watch a whole lot of tele tbh) but this years winner in Make up and Prostectics @ the BTACA awards, An ad for The Commission for Racial Equility is probobly the most powerful Advertisment i've ever seen.

They Took some Celebritys and with a bit of painstaking Make up work chaged there colour. i.e A White Scary spice, Prince Nassem, a Black Chris Evans, David Seaman.

Really simple Concept, but hugely effictive.

I just saw an ad a couple of minutes ago thats a classic. It's about this bloke and hes going to meet his bird for a date, only theres thousands of sperm following him (people dressed as sperm) and he stops to have a look into a shop window that sells lingerie and when he walks away all the sperms squash up to the window. Then it cuts to another street and the bird is standing at one end and the bloke at the other and you cant see the sperm anywhere but as soon as the bloke starts to walk toward the bird the sperm rush in behind him and trample him into the ground and just before they reach the bird the run into a big rubber sheet and the ad ends with the bloke and bird walking away hand in hand with a voice-over saying "Durex. For a million thousand reasons." Classy, funny, and illustrative, two thumbs up.

Too many good ads to mention but theres a lot of good irish ones atm -

Kate from UCD for Meteor is great, as is the Lifestyle Sports Cinderella commercial.

oh and Kylies new cinema ad for Agent Provocateur:)

"MAN UTD ARE DOING UTTERLY SH|TE AT THE MOMENT... CAN THEY COME BACK TO WINNING WAYS?... OR WILL THEY CONTINUE ON THEIR CURRENT FORM AND BE TRAMPLED BY [insert crap team name here] ???"

    heh

    --

    no... really.

    --

Oh, and that Lifestyle Sports Cinderella is a fiiiiiine young wan :)

The new Smithwicks ad with the two lads in the pub.

    "Are you having a Smithwicks?"

    "I am indeed"

    "Good man yersel!"

Yeah I know it sounds crap on paper...

But my fave of all time has to be the Weetabix Robin Hood ad

"Robin Hood Robin Hood, could be in a fix
Robin Hood Robin Hood, spies the Weetabix"

If LOTR is as good as this ad it should be allright on the imagery front.
Only thing is the 9 Riders ride STEEDS, not ikkle flucking shetland ponies.

Bard, fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine is not good enough.
Savage bit of tackle comes close but not close enough. The way she kinda digs her fingers into her thigh...mmmm-mmmmmmm.
Makes me want to go out and buy sports wear.
There are some lovely ass shots in the club scene at the start of the ad too though :)

Guinness ads rock, as do the 'If Carlsberg made.....', specially the Holidays one. Women in hardhats. Gets that whole Village People Thang going :)
I love guinness tis just so hard to find a decent pint of it. it's all in the pour, thoughh having clean pipes helps too.
    I've yet to have a decent pint in Dublin. I laugh at j00r n00bie pint-pullin Skillz :p

But my favourite ad of all time would have to be the Miller Genuine Draft laundry ad. That woman is about as close to what I'd consider perfect as i think i can bear. Gorgeous.
(is there an uncut/uncensored version? ;))

I know there are some great cars ads out there, I just can't think of any at the moment. They'll come back to e though, and then - with the help of god and a keyboard - I shall post about them....

If lookin for a good pint in Dublin, go to the Flowing Tide or The Lord Edward....they do shplendid pints.

My favourite ad would be that snickers one angelwhore mentioned..... class, and that new Kylie Minogue one :D

I found The Stables in University Of Limerick to be very good when things are quiet. But I also went there during the Ireland/Iran match and I was served a Guinness poured straight out in a plastic pint glass. Ugh. The bastard did'nt even fill it 3/4's way up first.

Country pubs can be quite good. Bloody cheap too. I was out the country in Cork during the summer and pints were £2 at any time of day or night.

Those Coors Light ads - "Some nights just keep going" - are good. Running through the snow in underwear - how can it fail to entertain? :D

Yup Brendan pours a good pint when it's quiet (have to admit I haven't been there in months, I've been going to the other place).

That Gordons advert was quite clever - the one where yer man slides down the straw.
