Right - I need suggestions for videos to rent that are so bad that they're good.

I want to make a major film buff laugh with some extremely bad stuff so let's roll with the suggestions.

Oh yeah - they should be films that are fairly easy to get a hold of.

    well, appart from
films that are fairly easy to get a hold of
R.O.T.O.R. (1989) is just about the best gawd awful movie I have ever seen. I dont know where you will ever find a copy - a friend of mine came across one in a bargin bin somewhere, but has tragicly lost it.

R.O.T.O.R. stands for Robotic Officer Tactical Operation Research. Its hileriously bad! Almost cult following up here in the sticks with everyone who's seen it. Just thinking about that 'sensor recall' brings a smile to my face :D

    [EDIT]
... just want to reemphisies how horribly great this film is! It's positivly one of the funniest movies I've seen..... and I think its supposed to be an action flick ;) . Anyone else seen it? very few have as far as I can tell.
    [/EDIT]

C.H.U.D. without a doubt. (Cannabiloid Human Underground Dwellers).

Xtravision on Baggot St. stocked it for a while but for some strange reason dumped it.

    In case you don't know the reference, there is an episode of the Simpsons where Homer is recounting his first visit to New York and being chased by the pimp (and then they all go and get the car which was left between the World Trade Center buildings);

at the end of the story he says "and then the Chuds got me". So now you know..... :)

Bad Taste. Absolutely **** and that's why it's so so good. Funny stuff.

Directed by Peter Jackson (Lord Of The Rings). Full of aliens eating human brains, lots of bad fx, really funny :)

Revenant - also known as Modern Vampires in the US, starring (amongst others) Casper Van Dien.

This is one of the poorest movies I've seen in years. Its so bad, myself and my GF couldnt stop laughing throughout the entire movie. In fact, we had to stop it at one point to calm down before continuing watching it.

    A true classic.

Another work which falls into the same bracket for me is Beowulf, starring Chrisotpher Lambert. Done by the same guy who did Mortal Combat, the film is semi apocalyptic post-modern, and part medieval. All fight scenes have thumping techno, and it is SO bad that I love it.

Both these movies are worthy additions to my DVD collection.

An oldie classic which also falls into the same category (IMHO) is The Lost Boys. Rubbish. Brilliant.

A vile vile vile movie. I would consider it too bad to be in the so bad it's funny category.

I'd agree with u koneko except that I think Bad Taste is actually meant to be funny, and not attempt to be a serious horror film. So it's actually 'so funny it's funny' no?

If it was called anytthing other than Beowulf, it may have just been dire. However, when taken in perspective of what it is supposed to be, it becomes hilarious.

This, of course, is IMHO. You are free to differ :)

Oh yeah and the unforgetable classic that is Billy the Kid, No not the Western, This film is set in england and involves a half goat half man beast ( Created when a drunkin Farmer shags a goat - no serious ) killing unsuspecting village folk. These films are true classix and are shown on bravo every couple of weeks @ 3 in the mornin..:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

yer kinda right dccarm, but it's not a comedy really. Depends on the person watching it I s'pose, but it was great wasn't it :)
Special Edition DVD on the way aswell, wahey!

surf nazis must die should so be in that list aswell.

Deep rising is a cracking little horro film.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭The_Bullman

I assume that the Toxic Avenger series of movies is in line with what you where looking for.
also maybe Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, or is that return, i dunno, pure bravo classic from a couple of years back.

and a mulit million dollar one is The Avengers, pure tripe. Wait though it is so crap that I wanted to strangle someone, not laugh at it.

and one last one. this movie was so crap it didn't make me laugh. bad news when it is meant to be a comedy. Zoolander. my god what a waste of my brothers money(i nicked a tener from him)-popcorn was nice though-extra butter, fantastic

Tetsuo -Iron man. It is an awful film! It is a Japanese black and white oddity about a guy that puts bits of metal into his body and bit by bit becomes a metal murderer.
I hated it at the time but I'd love to see it again as it was so bad. Not sure if it's possible to get but Laser has so much **** stuff.

Have you seen Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter? There's also Kung Fu Jesus, which promises - among other battles - Jesus vs. Jesus. I haven't seen either.

My one: Battlefield Earth. I laughed and laughed.
