Macromedia Dreamweaver - undoubted king of the hill.

Not so newbie friendly, but the best once you know what you're at with it.

agreed- Dreamweaver 4 is best by far.

And Bard is an award winning web designer...
    http://www.irelandoffline.com/Article.asp?id=300801

Of course he doesn't owe it all to DW- he has skills beyond the power of it actually, which he couldn't possibly reveal to any Joe Soap.

[thx for the cd thingy Niall;)- hence the plug!!]

and for a freebie you can download 1st page 2000 from http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-4003353-100-1422921.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-3.1422921 and its completely free, no shareware nonsense, and in my opinion its well more than worth the money.

Haven't used it, but Spider Writer (www.spiderwriter.com) is supposed to be good.

If you're just handcoding, I suggest Textpad.

For hand coding I'd recommend Editplus2. I use it for HTML, Javascript, ASP, Java and loads of other things. I reckon it's the best editor around.

    Pah! Emacs owns!
Alright so Homesite is the best editor, and Dreamweaver now has it embedded so Dreamweaver wins by default.

Wasn't Allaire bought out by Macromedia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

    Allaire bought by Macromedia?...

Why yes, ... yes they were... meaning that HomeSite and ColdFusion are now part of the Macromedia stable of products.

Oh, btw... I'd also recommend EditPadPro ... (see www.editpadpro.com for details).

And I mean whos going to question the decison making of the Irsh Government?? (www.irlgov.ie)
    Sure aren't they always right!

I don't think the current government site was developed with FP, it's actually not too bad.
In fact the Irish goverment is no. 1 in europe for it's e-gov services so there :p

Oh and the fact that I worked on one has nothing to do with it :)

    [Edit]BTW irlgov.ie was designed by Fusio[/Edit]

I just noticed that when I clicked on the link after I posted.
Let me correct that statement by making sure it is read in the past tense...

Homesite and Dreamweaver - and you get them both! Best value for money esp if you paid for it.

Far better than that GoLive crap.
