    Hi Lads,

I am relatively new to Satellite and all its trimmings, esp. Digital.

I am getting an installation done in the next week and was wondering is there anything I should watch out for, and maybe including anything I could ASK for to the installation personnel ?
(e.g. watch out for a such&such box or ask for this box because it is better, etc..)

    Thanks in advance,

    James.

the type of digi box is always limited to what the installer has in the van on the day Panasonic is good but ask him to do a forced upgrade to load up the latest version software as most panasonic boxes are about 2 months behind and you wont have the personal planner. the new grundig boxes (4eo4o5 version number) have a problem with lnb power supplys and sometimes it can take 2 weeks to get a new one. just take your chances and happy viewing

The Panasonics won't load the latest software as it's not broadcasting for them at the moment.

probably a rogue box. almost everyone around here got Grundigs and only one had major picture and sound problems. it turned out that the dish was misalligned

    Thanks lads for the info.

Yes, at my parents house, they have a Grundig (I dont know what model) and I am well impressed by the quality of picture + Audio. Hopefully, I'll get the same...

    Cheers,
    James.

    Smak,
    To do the forced upgrade:
    Plug out your digibox.
    Take out the card.
press and hold the backup button on the digibox(not the remote),and whilst holding the backup button, plug the box in again, holding that button for a few seconds untill all the lights on the front of the box light up-then you can let go of the backup button.
The upgrade will take 10 mins or so-YOU MUST leave the digibox alone untill its finished the upgrade as you could corrupt it!
If your digibox is connected to the tv via Scart-You will see a black and white message telling you that your digibox is updating.
When its done power it down again and insert the card.

It does work, but only when the updates are being transmitted. I beleive all the update streams were suspended when the EPG company relocation took place (the time when there was problems with getting info on the programs, e.t.c.), and only some, i.e. Pace updates have been brought back. The Panasonic updates were supposed to be back by now, but no one has managed to update yet, myself included with 2 boxes with old software. :(

    Just a side note.

When sky changed the EPG look not so long ago, it has almost killed the browsing speed on the <woops> original pace but with the Pace 2500 its like comparing the Ferrari to the Skoda..hehe a Pace 2500 a Ferrari..lol

Finally! It has updated! An auto update overnight. Now have EPG version 2.8b. Unusually, my other DSB31

Note that a forced update didn't work on my other DSB31s today even. Both of the others have BBC cards; the only one that updated itself was the one with the subscription card.
