Just something that nobody in the papers has mentioned .RTE say that their channels will be available from next April to Sky Digital subscribers - surely licence payers should be able to access RTE on this platform with a FTA card as in the UK . Also as they seem to be primarily interested in penetration in the North will anybody with a NI FTA card be able to recieve these channels?

First of all, RTE will probably be available on the lowest priced tier, i.e. the Value Pack in the Republic.

It's likely that RTE will use whatever revenue they get from a small fee to recoup the costs of going on DSat.
Of course 90% of people getting Sky get the Family Pack, so it will not cost any extra for the vast majority.
RTE may go FTA in the Republic, but I doubt it.

RTE will most certainly be available to NI viewers the same way as the BBC is in the Republic, on the Family Pack.

To be honest, I'd be extreamly surprised if RTE is part of the Value pack in the Republic as it is funded by the Irish Licence fee, so you'd be paying more for something you already have. I think it will be in one of the packs in NI - possibly Family.
