Sorry for asking what might seema familiar question, but as somebody who is desperately trying to justify the move to Sky Digital, my main stumbling block is this lack of independent channel control with a 2nd & subsequent TV set.

Is there absolutely no way to get around this problem?

Even by installing more than one digibox?

How many digiboxes can a single minidish "service"?

If sky support this type of service, what would the likely costs be?

    Here's hoping,

    Thanks,

    Michael.

Well i saw an ad on Sky tonight ( the one where the guys eyes are going everywhere :)), and the add sez that with a single box and dish you can get independant viewing on 3 TV's.

There are quad (may be called quattro) LNBs available so you can have up to 4 digiboxes connected to a single dish. The Sky + box comes with one of these LNBs as it needs two feeds from the dish and most people who have Sky + keep their original digibox too so that needs a third feed.

Chernobyl - You haven't got any more info on that Sky ad have you ??
I also saw it about a week ago, but I happened to be in line to collect food in a chinese take-away at the time, so I missed some of the voice-over. I am still waiting for it to come back on as want to dump NTL after ITV comes on board.
Do you know when its available and how much it would set you back
    Cheers,
    Dec..

The best thing to do, is to call Sky, but i dont know the number, but just check sky.co.uk for it.
    :)
£100 i would expect if its available in Ireland now, but i can only presume...

It's not available in the Republic yet (as far as I know), but I'm sure it will appear soon.

You have to get a new quattro LNB which is then connected to however many digiboxes (up to four) you need - one for each TV.

Then you pay something like £10 for each "mirror" subscription (i.e your normal subscription plus £10 per month for the channels on each extra TV).

    Confused ?

But as I say, it's not available here yet.

The last time I spoke to pace they said they had no plans at present to launch the sky + in ROI

Just found this on SKY's website at
    http://www1.sky.com/skycomhome/getsky/products/products07.htm

"You can now get all the channels in your chosen channel package through an extra digibox in your home without having to take out another full-price subscription. With an extra digibox and subscription, you and your family can watch different Sky digital programmes in different rooms at the same time. And you’ll still get the same digital quality through just one dish.
Standard installation will cost £50 for the first extra digibox and £25 for every other digibox installed at the same time. Additional charges may apply for non-standard installation. Sky will select the equipment supplied. "

That seems to be exactly what I was asking about. Now to find out if/when it'll be available in ROI, and at what cost per extra subscription.

    :)

the installation prices of £50 for the 1st box and £25 for a second etc. sounds good but don't you have to buy the extra digiboxes. ie. extra digiboxes don't come with the installation price. am i right or just talking through my arse

Yeah I'd say you might be right.

What's the retail on a standard Digibox?
Just as I started a new thread
