Why can't we get these channels as well? I've sent multiple e-mails ("Dear John" responses are below, nothing positive so far).

Hello and thank you your email.

Unfortunately Sky only transmits to UK and Ireland. BBC Prime and BBC
World are transmitted throughout Europe and is only available via Eutelsat
Hotbird 5 therefore it is not possible to receive the channels via Sky in
    Ireland.

However thank you for your interest.

    Cloud,
some moons ago-I emailed BBC Wales/HTV Wales enquiring about ITV Digital.
I told them I wanted to subscribe and would there be a problem.
They replied expressing amazement and delight that so many were watching Welsh TV in this part of the World and referred me on to "ONdigital".
I sucessfully subscribed to what was then "ON Digital" and still receive all those channels.
It's all the usual red tape and Baloney thats stopping those channels coming on.
Presumably-My name and address has been added to the numbers counted as ITV Digital Subscribers in the UK and my address is in the Republic of Ireland!!!
BBC Knowledge is a superb Resource-and for my opinion, given a choice between Sky NEWS and BBC NEWS 24 , I would choose the latter any day-John Simpsons Coverage in Afghanistan has been second to none.

What part of Ireland do you live in? Do you need a gigantic aerial or something?

    Glenn,
    Intrigued... ;)

    Hi Glennus,
Nope-round where I live-you can get ITV Digital most of the time with the tiniest of aerials-with masthead amp.
I spoke quite a bit about it in the middle of this thread-read all three pages and your intrigue will be answered:

Where might that be, my friend? I live in Dunmore East, home of the deflector which doesn't actually rebroadcast Welsh TV but the English channels from Sky. I live on the hill almost at the coast and there is nothing obstructing my view of Wales from here. I have searched every single channel from 21 - 69 and every single one of them has as least a very faint signal coming from somewhere. There are some people who have very large UHF aerials, I must ask them what they can receive.

I'll say one thing for them, they are good at replying (no e-mail black holes there like when I mailed Tara TV):

    Dear John

Thank you for your e-mail, which has been forwarded to us for reply.

I was pleased to read of your interest in receiving additional BBC
Channels in the Republic of Ireland. I note that you are currently
enjoying BBC ONE and TWO Northern Ireland through your Sky Digital package
and trust you continue to enjoy these channels.

As regards the possibility of receiving channels such as BBC Choice, BBC
News 24, BBC Knowledge or BBC Parliament through SKY in the future I would
suggest you contact the appropriate Sky TV office for information on any
plans they may have to provide these services to the Irish Republic.

Finally, some cable companies may provide BBC programmes in the Irish
Republic. Please check with your local Cable TV service provider for
details of what is available. Cable companies normally make a charge for
providing this service as part of a package of channels.

Thank you again for contacting the BBC and for your interest in BBC
    programming.

    Regards

    Dear Mr Breslin

Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept our apologies for the delay in
replying. We know our correspondents appreciate a quick response and we
are sorry you have had to wait on this occasion.

There are currently no plans to extend our agreement to enable viewers
outside the UK watch our digital channels. However, please be assured
that I have personally registered your interest for the attention of
    senior management.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.

    Cloud,
Your correspondence is going to the Boardroom of the BBC eh?:D
I think DamoDMC mentioned in another thread, here that he thought , Sky would never allow BBC NEWS 24 on the Irish EPG as they are getting AD revenue on the Irish version of Sky news.
He has hit the nail on the head there, unfortunately :(

Luckily, I have both BBC 24 and Knowledge, on both the ITV digital and the bbc Card and they are superb :)
BBC NEWS 24,I will say again is Tonnes better than Sky News.
    And as for Knowledge-sheer Bliss!

BBC Prime is encrypted on Hotbird, BBC World is FTA in analogue. If you still have an old analogue dish move to 13E and you can watch it.

the BBC. that's what stopping them. the BBC would obviously be looking for money from Sky if they were to allow them to beam these channels into Irish homes
