for me there is no competition in this. Aertel is by far the better of the 2 but 3text have come a long way in the last while. at the moment it is Aertel for me

Aertel on this one, espically as its the only teletext service that you can look on the internet. This was a very handy service, before RTÉ News Online was launched, but old habits die hard!:)

But threetext has come on in leaps and bounds.......... But I never watch TV3 anyway... Wish the grandaddy of the all, Ceefax, was still available on DSAT tho....

To be fair-ish to TV3 its still in its early stages, whereas
Aertel has been going years now, but both are thin gruel
compared to the BBC Ceefax, and that could be better,
teletext is starting to look rather old-hat when compared to the net. Still its free!

Both are good for quick looks at Irish news-but imo Ceefax/ITV teletext are my favourites :)
Am fast beig turned off analogue teletext-for it's slowness though-it is an out dated technology.

I still think Threetext is the best

for me it has to aertel but that is just going from the two given, i agree that ceefax is much better.

threetext is in its early stages i agree but this is the point where really it should be showing what potential it has. The news is not updated as quickly as it could be. I find that what is news at two o' clock in the day is still the same news on the threetext at 9' o clock at night. even though the channel itself has had at least two bullentins and more new news as such has come in.

I think the news format is getting a little bit old. It is not getting in to the juicy topics of the news, and is more concentrating on a magazine style show with very little good journalism and then it gets to be repeated again 30 mins later.

sorry going off the point slight.

it has to aertel from the two, oh yeah the website is pretty alright too.

boo to tv 3 on this one ....

ARTEL has a better service but you have to remember. ThreeText only started aboot a year ago. Artel has been going for ages. Athough. pg 180 (TV: Now & Next) is better on ThreeText then artel as you can watch TV and view the TEXT. But it doesnt matter to me. I have a twin tuner TV so i can watch TV and view the Text on two sides of the screen:p

I use Aertel primarily for rushing through the news stories. I skip the news stories on 3text - there are far too many typos for my liking.

I like the fact no matter what irish channel your watch tv now is on page 180. (Good idea)

Not really bother by any of the texts.

    TV3 need a bigger website.

    In order of preference:
    1. Ceefax
    2. Aertel
    3. threetext
    4. Teletext (too many damn adverts)
    5. Sky Text (on SkyNews cable feed)

What i really dont like about aertel are those annoying descriptions they put on the Movie Page. (183)

E.G. "LATE LATE MOVIE" "SCREEN 1" "SCREEN 2" "THE SATURDAY MOVIE"

    and so on.

Why do this ? We know what day of the week it is and if its late or not.
Sometimes there is not enough room for the full titel of the movie being shown.
Why dont they put in more usefull information as as in the following example.

    GOODFELLAS (1995) - Genre: Drama/Thriller
    Director: Martin Scorsese
Leads: Robert Di Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta
    Support: Whoever

"Then a brief description of the movie here"

Page 183 might give you a taster for this kind of info.

    Ceefax 302 ->
At The Races whatever page results & betting and page 330 for market movers.

Holy thread bump, not quite a record though!

When I last replied to this thread in 2002 TV3 still had the news on threeText. I beleive they plan to introduce a new website soon. Well done TV3, 6 years I new you would eventually start reading my posts on boards LOL

Also I seem to be nice to TV3 in my last post on this Thread, prehaps I was more positive towards them back then.

Aertel: The football pages shud never have been moved around!!

Page 221 was ALWAYS the page to check the latest scores of a match anyday. Think they've moved it to something like 234 now, with the tables in the 400s. Pretty bad - they shud have it all grouped together. Same with GAA - Page 240 for ages, and then they change it.

Threetext: So many pages not working - music, film guide etc .... Just full of ads, with no plan. Just hope the new website will be better planned out than their text service.

Agreed. It is all over the place now.

It's taking them a long time to get it off the ground. Have you seen the intro by Lorraine Keene and co. you would think the Interweb never existed before www.tv3.ie

A website for women. That is the impression that video gives me.

Well TV3 must think women have never heard of the Internet before.

Anyway it's taking far too long to set up. From a marketing perspective it should have been role out with their GAA coverage during the summer.

From a historical context it should have be up and running in 2001.

    Aertel imho

Seems like threetext has come to a halt. All the listings are from about a month ago - and the entertainment pages are the same.

Pity - because the listings were good in detail with some channels than aertel.

I'd say TV3 are just pumping the money into their website now

How long can a thread stay open?

Yeah everyone in TV3 is on Holidays.
