My post contained a heavy dose of cynicism, but no name-calling. On what grounds was it deleted. It concerns me that deletion used where necessary is good, but that it is being used without just cause in some cases. Please reply. Thank you in advance.

Your post was deleted because it was stupid, mindless, insulting to a broad section of people, and worst of all, very very boring.

Anything you or anyone else posts in a similar vein will be deleted from now on. If you don't like this, feel free to no longer post in Humanities. If you can post like a rational person with more than three reactionary brain cells, your post will not be deleted.

Castor must have deleted your post. I fired another warning up. If you are argueing your point please do so without resorting to petty name calling.

Do not react to people who insults you, they obviously realise that they have already lost the arguement if they are lowering themselves to that level.

All I said was that "moronican" was a patehtic attempt at an insult. That was HARDLY an abuse. I also notice that "moronican" post is STILL THERE

I think whoever deleted was more interested in deleting what followed (Gandalf).

If you guys won't allow another viewpoint other than your radical left-wing perspective to be posted, what good is this message board?

OK point taken. I agree with the no name-calling and Admittedly some of my recent posts have been OTT. But I wasn't insluting anyone directly or generally IMO. I find it hard to believe that using a chant that is common in movies, TV shows etc is insulting to a broad section of people. Mindless, Yes. Thats why I used it because in my "opinion" that was how I found the level of journalistic integrity in the intial post. So I respectfully disagree with your decision.

P.S. In retrospect I would edit the aforementioned post but the thread is closed. I will make a point not to resort to name-calling in future

Firstly I did not delete the posts. So obviously I was not interested in deleting what followed. All I did was warn you guys to calm down. In the meantime Castor decided to take action. To be honest there were warnings posted on the board by Castor in an announcement and I placed one in that thread myself.

Excuse me but where in hell are there radical left wing viewpoints. I have no problem with viewpoints from every wing you care to mention been fired up here, the only rules are as follows, that they are civil and that they are not racist. Personally my own politics are liberal and judging from the fact that you posted a Rich Lowery article I can assume that you are a Right Wing American Conservative.

Gandalf -- respectfully, I have noticed a certain bias here that seemingly tolerates far, far more from the left than from the right. The lockdowns and deletions of the left seemingly come ONLY after a like response by the right.

Sharkey lets get this clear all the lockdowns etc have occured because adults have started to insult each other like spoilt children. Not because of a certain bias in politics or opinions.

As for Right Wing /Left Wing, I am getting the impression that anyone who offers a point of view that questions what the US & allies are doing in Afghanistan are been labelled as Left Wing.

I split the original thread and put all the views on that closed thread into here. Just so we can keep both thread on-topic :)

    Survival guide to Humanities.
    1. Don't name call.
If the guy is an idiot say they are "Mistaken" or "Misinformed". Don't emphasize those words and point to this guide as your just doing another version of name calling.

    2. Step away from troll threads.
Spotting good trolls is hard and there are actually at least 2 people on the humanities board who troll professionaly for sport.

If the thread has nothing to add but to cause people to reply in anger then don't reply. Castor has a good knack of finding these and locking them anyway.

    3. Cite proof.
Any proof other then "I'm right your wrong". Even if your proof is some geocities webpage with flashing animations and a Aha Midi file playing in the background.

    4. Don't take a post/website/news posting as the final proof for what a person is saying.

Better yet rather then thinking "This guy has no clue!" think "What made this guy come to this conclusion?"

A good example is www.whatreallyhappened.com . Rather then dismiss anything posted as "Tinfoil hat wearing looney" the guy bases a lot of his stories on facts (even if they are a bit skewed at times) but he points to those areas and it allows me to get a better understanding of where he is coming from or find other information which I can cross reference with what I already know.

Basically Don't be afraid to dig.

    5. If they are wrong show them.

Don't just call them an idiot and say thier information is flawed. Point them to other information which debunks thiers.

I don't think there is a bias, it's just that maybe the right (I can never work out which side is which) actually bother to go look for information to back up what they are saying.
