Sir Alex Ferguson... is he or isn't he United's greatest manager?? and is he the greatest manager in the world??

He might b United's greatest manager, but only 4 a goal by United's left back LEE MARTIN in 1990 F.A. CUP FINAL REPLAY, he wud have been sacked.

The following year they won the CUP-WINNERS-CUP, and since the Premiership was established United haven't been outside the top 2 teams, and when the were runners-up it was only by 1 POINT.

Numerour F.A. CUPS and the EUROPEAN CUP have seen FERGIE's status grow, but is it excellent managerial skills or has the club been blessed with such rich talent that his job was just to tell them to go out and do a job.

He has made some excellent signings such as SCHMEICHEL, CANTONA, COLE, and now VERON and VAN NISTELROOY who have to prove themselves.

He is obviously United's greatest manager but the world's greatest may b going 2 far.

    Wot do ye think?
Who will succeed him next June?

It will have to b a successful manager to take over, unlike Bryan Robson or any other former players.

My money is on Ottmar Hitzfeld the Bayern coach, he and Fergurson seem to be out of the same school so the
tranfere of power would be fairly smooth, though
his liking for Latin American players might cause upset on
    Tyneside!.

Actually the biggest problem for United plc
might be that Sir Alex will still be around "upstairs"
    freaking out any successor.

    Mike.

    reb , are you sure ? ;)

Anyway did anyone read the piece for The Times (of London)
which was reprinted in the indo, it read like an obituary.

I nearly felt sorry for him, nearly...!

    Mike.

I'd say he is Utd's greatest manager and I also reckon Hitzfeld will take over after he leaves.

But Fabio Capello is by far the best manager in the world.

I know this has nothing to do with sport but.....

Meant to say I wouldn'r call anyone Sir as in the royalty/knighted way. Not i'm inclined to call people Sir normally (work etc...) but thats just cos don't have much cause to.

I can't remember where I read it (maybe the unbiased Sunday Times?) but apparently Tony O'reilly was interviewed in the states about his recent knighthood. As I said he was reported to have said the irish people were delighted for him...

Now I wonder why that not reported in the indo, sindo etc....?

BTW on the whole football manager thing.

I'd have to say Hector Cuper has impressed me the most in the last 5 years. Hes doing well at Inter & if he can win them the Serie A this season will definitely be the best around. He seems to have the ability to recreate successful teams year on year.

Trappatoni (spelling?) is well up there in europe managers too.

What you think about the notion that
when Alex Fergerson moves on he'll be replaced
by Martin O'Neill who will in turn be replaced by Mick McCarthy which will leave the way open for - you're ahead of me! - Fergie to
    take over the Ireland job!

Its neat but almost certainly crap!

It's most definately crap. If SIR ALEX is 2 manage an international team it will b Scotland.

I agree with u. He is the best manager in the world.

Hector Cuper has done a fabulous job as has Martin O'Neill and
Ottmar Hitzfeld, all of whom wud b great United managers.
