The Digital Zone - BBC TWO

    Hi everybody.

As previously rumoured, it has now been confirmed that BBC TWO is launching its Digital Zone on November 5th 2001.

This will mean that viewers on Digital Cable and Satellite will recieve different peak time programmes - from 8:30pm to 10pm - on BBC TWO.

Here's the rub - some analogue cable viewers will also recieve the new services. But we don't know which ones...

What I would like all forum members to do from Nov 5th is post which version of BBC TWO they are recieving:

    BBC TWO Northern Ireland
BBC TWO Northern Ireland - Digital
    BBC TWO Wales
    BBC 2W Wales (Digital)

(BTW for presentation watchers, it is known that BBC 2W - the new digital channel replacing BBC TWO in Wales on Digital - will have new idents (and a DOG), not sure about NI.)

I hope to have a full article on the changes to BBC TWO later this week.

    Thank you
    Ronan.

. Expect plenty of John Daly, Patrick Keilty, and Give My Head Peace repeats...
    from ICDG rumour pages

Ronan, this is more than my head can cope with!

First I can't get NTL to play ball and install Go Digital and now I'm not sure I want them to, to refere back to a different thread of
mine why would we want to watch such crap once never mind twice?
One of the plus points of digital is supposed to be greater choice is'nt it?

Suddenly a sub to Sky Digital seems attractive or is that
    crippled similarly?

    Mike.

Being slightly mad as I am
Ronan-I should be able to tell you whats on the various BBC " variations via the BBC Card as and from november fifth.
Do you know if the changes will affect BBC Two wales on ITV digital?-will check this also.
presumably there will be no changes on analogue bbc two?

BBC TWO Wales on ITV Digital will be replaced by the new BBC2W (complete with on screen "2W" logo from 6pm each evening) . There will be no changes to analogue BBC TWO, if you are recieving it directly from a UK transmitter or a relay of an analogue feed.

As for digital satellite, I can confirm that it will carry the Digital Zone. There doesn't seem to be any concern for ROI viewers - NI viewers can pick up BBC TWO English Regions to watch the peak-time programming (or switch to analogue), but ROI viewers don't have that luxury. To be expected I suppose.

    Spare us this idiocy!

I presume NTL can get thier signal via a non opt-out
source if they want to, maybe we should send them a few
missives suggesting they do just that... :(

Just to update people on this issue, the TV Times has come out today with the schedule and while BBC 2W will be carrying opt-out programmes from 8:30-10:30pm every weeknight, BBC TWO Northern Ireland's Zone is much more limited - just an hour on Wednesday and Thursday. It will probably build up from that though.

Do they really think people want this ?

They don't seem to know what to do next. They already had regional BBC Choice, and they merged them. And now they're further regionalising BBC2.

I'm sure these types of variations lose viewers. I can't think of a single BBC NI programme that I like. I'd prefer if BBC England was available on either NTL or Irish Sky Digital.

    Hi Astl here,

Does anyone have any idents (funny animations/videos before a program) of BBC 2W. If so e-mail them to me. Please make them as small as possible (i only have a dial-up connection), maybe in MPG or RAM format. I searched on the internet, but could not find anything. My email address is astlthomas@hotmail.com. Thanks!
