Anyone know how to write text like it is in this example, in either GIMP or Paint Shop Pro?

It looks sort of shadowed or indented; black text with a white outline:

Select white as your secondary/bg colour in PSP. Then click Image on the top toolbar, then effects, drop shadow. Try different offsets, somewhere between 2 and 3 usually does me fine (with 0 blur).

depending on the font size/bg colour, you may need to add another drop shadow with a negative offset, e.g. -2, -3, of a slightly darker colour than the bg one.

    [EDIT] can't spell for sh*t today [/EDIT]

More recent versions of Paint Shop Pro will have the 'Inner bevel' and 'Outer bevel' effects for use with selections....
You might try creating your text as a floating selection, then applying a bevel to it.
You might not get the results you want with a small point font, so you should probably enlarge the image before trying it, then scale it down to what ever you want afterwards.
