If you've got a big pipe try ftp.esat.net it's got most distros..

    My personal favourite is FreeBSD..

Total Install ISO size is 650MB so don't bother unless you have the bandwidth.. This conatins everything you need, just burn it onto a CD.

    luck,

    seawolf-i386-disc1.iso
    seawolf-i386-disc2.iso
    seawolf-i386srpms.iso
    md5sum

all in all toook about 7 hours. i have adsl so its ok :)
now, is this what i need, or have i fcuked up somehwere :)

of course, if you can burn something onto cd for me that i can just stick in and boot of and it installs then id mucho appreciate it!

and is there a complete muppets guide to installing any of these stystems?

actually i found a muppets guidde to installing freebsd, using floppies and ftp so i may do that, however.... i will be installing onto a laptop.
shouldnt make much difference, but will it have problems with pcmcia cards etc?

Eamonn, if you're putting it on a laptop, I'd suggest getting Mandrake 8.1, it's a nicer installer and it's got support for a lot of laptop hardware including pcmcia cards etc. I have it on an Inspiron 7500 and it works great.
