Censorship on boards.ie by the thought police

I think its disgraceful that people with legitamate non violent viewpoints are censored on these forums.I had a post deleted because i spoke a truth the happy-happy utopia liberals of this country would rather ignore.On the subject of travellers i poiunted out that they are more likely to commit crime than the general population.This view cannot be banned as racist.Travellers are ethnically Irish people,not another race.I didnt call for any kind of murder,violence,deportation etc.So this dosent constitute inflaming hate does it?It was on a subject intitled "Why do you hate the English"in which some expressed views worse than mine,but they dont get censored.Please do not remove this post as it is a legitmate view which demands anwsers.

In all my time on Boards I've never seen Castor delete something that wasnt bang out of line.

If you've got a point to make on a sensitive subject then you have to think out you points very carefully, sweeping statements don't cut it

Reminded of this yesterday watching TV3's Agenda where Kevin Myers made a couple of comments critical of Islam (statements of fact but not flattering), playing with fire but he handled it well

Personally I wouldn't be able for such delicacy (most of us aren't) so I just keep my mouth shut when it come's to sensitive issues like this, sounds like you should probably do the same

tbh I'm mystified too - we had a discussion about travellers ages ago and there was probably worse said then. I suppose now there's a greater audience on the boards the moderators have a greater responsibility for removing offensive(ish) content?

What the hell do you actually care about travellers? I get quite a bit of flack on linuxnewbie.org as being Irish alot of the views I have that people seem to regard as pretty mainstream on boards.ie are deemed as

liberal
socialist
nazi

which is ok, I kind of like that my American friends think I'm leftwing it gives me something to troll about because everyone here is so tolerant.

My point. Why would you have the slightest inclination to troll about Travellers? Travellers are disowned by this state and really can't you show some more understanding towards Travellers, and kids of all ages do destructive things, or at least I did when I was a kid.

Now lots of smack addicts are so crazed looking for drugs that they do crazy things, and lots of those reallly desperate addicts are homeless. There is a homeless shelter that has just opened up on my street in inner city Dublin. Ok right around the corner there is the AA where alcoholics hang out and scab money from people going to and from the AA and presumably going to the AA itself. So what? you say. There is a girls national shcool right between these two centers, hmmm real nice location no? My point.
I would really rather both of these centers were not on my doorstep, I would really rather the great brains that saw fit to locate these centers on opposite sides of a 5-7 year old girls school had thought better of it and put it say on their own street but they have to be somewhere right? People are homeless of drunks or addicts not by choice but by accident I believe so, should I call these people scum and say get the fsck out of my face and off of my street now?

Nope I should recognise that many human beings in this world are not as fortunate as I and that it is my responsibility to help them out if not by getting involved with helping them out, then at least being tolerant enough and understanding enough to realise that I should be tolerant & empathatic.

Travellers are people just like you or I , simply in a different set of circumstances mostly not of their own making and in any event even if I do not choose to live as a Traveller I should not pass judgement on people who do. That's their choice, it's a tradition and way of life too yeah? Really I don't know anything about it and that is reason enough not to scorn it.

Hmm, I remember (hazily) about some netiquette argument, where he just mis-read my post, and deleted it, even tho the problem was only with a small part of it.

Still he's pretty fair, and tbh it's not very PC to make a comment about traveller's like that. If CT wants to delete it, then well he can easily justify it. You might not have said it, but your statement might have implied that all/or most of travellers are criminals. Although if you watched "Snatch" too much I could see why...

Ok, if we could all express our most extremist opinions to our heart's content, why would we have mods? It would be a glorious free-for-all But since expressing that veiw in public ,in most places in this country wouldn't exactly endear you to those listening, to put it mildly, so why should such opinions be tolerated here?
