    Hi all

    I just got a call for a job, Woohoo

    i need too find out about AS400, the guy who told me about it told me him self that he's a technafobe, so if there's any software of the same name or an envirment whit the same name could people please E-mail me info on how to use it, run it?

    Don't know much about it other than I think its a mainframe kinda os. I'll try to find out some more for you.

    A bloody huge specialised IBM mainframe. It usually runs IBM Rumba as the client (With a fair few different packages like JDE etc.)

    It's not a job to take if you think knowing about PC's will help you figure it out.

    Yep it's a Mainframe, but it can also run OS/400 (Which mine does).

    It's pretty simple to run, if you know what your doing otherwise it can be a bit of nightmare. I've root access, so only time I have to play with the machine is when the developers manage to trash it (supposed to be not possible, but there you go).

    If you can get your hand on the manuals (there's tons of them), they are pretty straight forward to read. However as an example the book on "Backup/Restore" is bigger then my phone book.

    try puting 350 of them on a shelf higher then your head smile.gif , i used to work in ibm server group but that was in stock control frown.gif
    i might be able to get my hands on some books form ibm

    Depends on what they expect him to do. Some places like train in fresh.

    I had 0% experience on AS/400 when they got the machine in. They just plonked it at my desk and said "Set that up by next week". eek.gif

    we started and got told..
    "in 6 weeks u're to put together a phone exchange"
    we got 11 weeks of training in total. (just finished) and are about to start another datacoms course in 5 weeks.
