    Okay...
Lets explore the greatest book ever written..
    The Holy Bible...

How does it stand up to todays beliefs and scientific scrutiny??
it seems to be broken down into 2 parts..
    old testament and the New.

It is sometime said the the old is fabel and the new is base on actuaul accounts which are further broken down into indevidual chapters etc...

Do you feel you need to be religious to want to read such a book?
does it have any place in modern society
is it just something that should be forgoten?
has it got any ring of truth about it
there are many other questions.. but thats enough to get you going.... ;)

Moved to Humanities- religion's place in modern society is an incredibly interesting and involving question- but not one for the scientists to answer methinks.

My view is there is no fundamental conflict between Religion and Science in the modern world. Each has it's own area of strength, Religion being spiritual/ethical values & Science being concerned with the empirical laws of this world.

The Bible does have some howlers
    - Pi = 3
    - Sky a celestial dome
but as a historical document it tallies well with archeological evidence and is as readable as anything by Xenophon or Herodotus.

Most believers don't take the literal truth of the Bible, but as a source of allegory & parable, meant to be interpreted as a whole & not cherrypicked to support one's own enthusiasms.

Science is an excellent discipline, where one strives to unlock the mysteries of the Universe but it doesn't give meaning to life, or provide guidance for actions, which Religion can do.

    "Meaning of Life!"

Hmm... does anyone realy understand this question?

Do people mean "meaning of life!" or "purpose of life!"

To answer a question, you usualy need to understand it meaning...

No need to be religious to read it. It's very interesting, even simply taken as a novel...
