next wednesday (the 17th). I've also signed for the internet

...er to avoid any further confusion - I'll have the box
installed from the co-ax point beside the telly (always a good choice I feel!) and I live in Waterford, where as far as I know
all homes on the system are digi-ready.

    Hope that helps, Jessica. :)

Tuesday night, looking forward to the 'morrow, will the buggers even turn up? Will everything work after they leave me with
the users manual and a vacant stare on my face?

I'll post again later tomorow night...

    Mike,

You should phone up and give them 'socks' over the phone.
I remember when I had the two-way telephoney installed, they said they would come on a certain day and they never came. This kept happening for a while.
So I gave them a good ear full over the phone. I got free installation out of them. So phone as soon as you get the chance.

Let me know how you get on,

    Everyone's waiting on you.

And when you get it, we want a full report. At least a three-page essay.

    Best of luck with NTL.

    Mike.

I rang NTL about 6 weeks ago when the ad first came out on the radio.

I live in Dublin 15 and was told they would not start connecting in my area for about 2 weeks, so i ask them to send me out information on there package, to which i was told they would get back onto to me near the date.

2 weeks past and i heard nothing from NTL, and no post, exect the bill which they didnt seem to forget to send for my phone and tv package.

So i called them and asked was there a problem, they apoligised for not getting back to me, and told me that it would be another 2 weeks before they started in my area.

Needless to say its been 2-3 weeks and they have not made contact with me........i guess they dont want our buisness.
This is again another example of what Irish buisness thinks of it custumers

    Brian.

O and yes i had to wait, for what seemed like ages on the call waiting.

it really is poor tho that they treat their customers like this - even those who are willing to pay MORE for new services :(

Still, with rumors abound that RTE is joing Sky Digital in the New Year and ITV due to start testing this week, my plan is to purchase a 2nd box & mirror subscription (£12 I believe, which is more-or-less what I pay NTL for the basic TV service) and get rid of them altogether.

I hav'nt been on to them since last Saturdays' non-answer
as I figued they would'nt be there on a bank holliday, and
I'm not sure I can be arsed to keep trying to be honest, as for
Sky well maybe at this rate... :(

I did'nt even receive the internet deal paperwork yet. Grrrrr:mad:

I back .. not that anyone missed me!

Mike i can't beleive that you still do not have digital television from ntl installed. This seems to be going on forever! Why don't you write a letter in to there managing director or something .. that is ridicolous. customer service my asss! ohh i do apologise.

    but that is crazzzzzzzzzzziiiieeeee!!!

    ntl >>>

I would love to hear if anyone actually has it yet. I truly have my doubts. Perhaps I'll return with a poll if I can get my hands on Opera quickly.

I gave them another ring this morning but still no advance. I'm just really hoping that someone on the phone might let something slip and I might actually get an insight into what's going on. :)

I'm to get a call when my area is "DTV capable". Mmmm.

    Window. Hope. Out.

    Kix,
Quite apart from wanting to know if NTL digital is connected anywhere in ROI at the moment-But crucially Can NTL show a demo anywhere of their digital service ie: can you go to their ofices or somewhere, try out the set top box,use the internet, see the picture quality/interactive services and hear the sound quality-like any self respecting consumer is entitled to...
If not I would suggest its all a joke:mad:

Good bloody point MM. Probably not. To be honest, I'd like to see the poll filled in by as many people as possible so that I might have some basis for making a complaint to the ODTR. I know it's probably futile yet I'd just hate to see apathy win.

    Hi all,

    Chapter 4

This morning, with a slightly heavy heart I picked up
the phone and dailed NTL, a nice young woman called Nicola
answered, I related how dispite two calls no-one had called 'round to install Go Digital, she expressed some concern and not a little surprise, after a moment she arranged a new
time, next Wednesday afternoon between 2 and 6, I jokingly
said I hold her to that and she laughed a slightly nervous laugh.
We said our goodbyes and I now wait more in hope than
    expectation.

    The end (for now).

    Mike

They're claiming to be signing up 1000 customers per week for Digital according to a report on IOL's news page.

Um...I'd be most interested to know where they're getting these customers cause from what I've read here, the service isn't actually available anywhere outside Tallaght.

Wonder if we could get them for false advertising? ;)

    (Wahey! My 50th post!) :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭Jessica

speaking of false advertising - did anyone read in the mirror newspaper today that ntl in england have gotten a telling off from oftel or whoever is over their advertising ??

NTL have got themselves in hot water a few times now, having
pissed off many UK subscibers with tall tales and very small print.

    Read this for examples

Well Wednesday afternoon has come and gone and of course they hav'nt turned up. Frankly I don't know what to say except
they hav'nt disapointed me because I now expect nothing but the worst from NTL.

Maybe they'll turn up tomorrow or Friday but I'm caring
    less and less....

    Mike.

p.s. I'm going to e-mail this whole thread to thier service desk,
    maybe it'll spark some interest.

Tell them that you are lodging a complaint to the ODTR. I've looked at the date of the start of this thread, 5 weeks. It's really not on.

The ODTR might not do much, (bunch of spineless ghets) but you could put the wind up the NTL person at the other end :):)

yea Mike seriously...5 weeks is RIDICULOUS by ANYONE'S standards....just get Sky in and forget about the joke that is NTL Digital...remember they're losing your business not vice versa.

Thanks for the words guys, the real pi**er is that
I'm stuck with NTL if I want cheaper net access.
    Come on ESAT, UTV whoever!

When I thought about Go Digital first I thought, well
I'll get the net deal and spend some of what I save
on the digital service, so of course I signed up for both and have got neither.
    Grrrrrr:mad:

I see Sky have got almost a full set
of UK channels (only C4 missing), so I'll check thier prices, but that still leaves me with hefty phones bills...

I can sympathise there alright Mike..I used to have IOL NoLimits before I got cut off for "overuse" :(

Incidentially, I had an NTL engineer out this morning to check the poor reception I reported to them the other day (see my thread in this forum for more) and he thinks the problem is that the signal coming in from the box is TOO STRONG?? so he's gonna check the main boxes on Monday (anyone ever heard of anything like this? - sorry for goin off-topic) ;)

Hi all, I've just discovered this forum and I'm surprised to see so few people here having any luck getting NTL Digital installed. I've had it up and running for a week now (I'm in Waterford BTW). I don't know how it compares to Sky as I've never seen what their digital service is like but generally speaking I'm happy with the picture quality, sound, etc.

    However.....

I'm having one minor (but irritating) problem. Every so often the picture freezes for a split-second, maybe with a bit of 'judder' in it, before snapping back to normal. This seems to happen *at least* once every half-hour or so (meaning it happens in every bloody programme you watch), sometimes twice in the space of a few minutes.

I rang NTL about it today and when I eventually got through I was told to try unplugging the decoder (already done several times during the week, with no luck) or try removing and re-inserting the card. This I hadn't done, so I tried it but no joy there either. Not wanting to spend another eternity on hold trying to get through on the phone again I've sent 'em an e-mail about it so I'm just waiting to see if I get any reply.....

I was kinda hoping there might be other people here with the service installed but so far it looks like I'm the only one:(

If anyone else manages to get it installed could you let me know if you're having a similar problem?

    Gavin

    Hi Gavin,
    Welcome to our little cabal!

Good news, this evening NTL phoned me!
Just as Michael Owen was scoring for Liverpool...

Anne Marie who is a supervisor appologised for the on-going
saga going on this long and has promised to have installers
visit me next Wednesday, she's even phoning me Thursday night just to comfirm same, so maybe I'm finaly going to get inside
    the digital kingdom.

I think she said she'd noticed my plight when looking through the log, rather than my e-mail.

Just a quick edit to say she called tonight Thursday and everything is set for next Wednesday.

    Mike.

Well today I got my Go Digital box, as promised just before
for deadline of 1 pm. First impressions are few as I've hardly looked at it yet! but the picture quality is better, the remote is awful, it must have been designed by someone who used to do
dashboards on American cars ie its an ergomonic disaster.

Actual navigation around the features on the remote is easy enough though.

The installation took the thick end of two hours as the co-ax cable from the box outside to the telly was'nt up to the job and had to be replaced.

    That's all for now folks...

    Mike

Just under 50 days, well I am impressed!

Good to see you are now in the land of digital multi-multi-channel TV.

(BTW, It took 4 days to get my Sky dish installed, a further day, and I got the card!)

    Enjoy Mike!

50 days?!! wow. and i rang up and started moaning and goin mad coz yer man was a few hours late. you have a helluva lot of patience. and Gavin i get that "judder" thingy too. and i noticed that they "update my service" a lot late at night too. so i'd be there watchin a late night movie or summit and it'd freeze and i couldn't do nething. so i unplug and that "we are currently updating your service" message comes up. it only lasts a minute or two but its really annoying. well i've said my piece now so i'm gonna shut up.

No updating my service yet, as far as I can see. That said, I'm going to bed early this weather, it might be happening in the small hours.

    Madman,

I e-mailed this thread after the third let-down, I was phoned by
a supervisor a several days after, I dont think the two are
connected, I did'nt mention it and they did'nt either!.
I'd like to think someone is now reading this forum at NTL.

I have'nt yet had an interuptions. Its amusing/frustrating to see all the buttons on the remote that do nothing...

Oh yes is'nt Men and Motors the cheapest thing you ever saw?:D.
