Gaelcon is a large games convention held once a year across the bank-holiday weekend of October. It encompasses everything from Games Workshop games, to FASA games such as BattleTech, to bizarre stuff, to card games like Magic, RPG's, and LARP's

And yes .. i shall be there too folks. Head W40K GM (if I heard correctly - which I probably didn't - lol)

    First off .. to Digi_Tilmitt

    http://www.clontarfcastle.ie

To Kharn, there's a posting somewhere in the "Games" section of Boards.ie with a posting of the IGA and Gaelcon websites. I was asking for a contact for someone, and someone replied to it with this. I can't remember the url :(

The tournament army size is typically set at 1500 if you're worried about the size needed for competing at Gaelcon or anything.

Can you use special charactors because a lot of my army is made up of Special people.

For tournaments?? No. Only Codex characters e.g. A wolf lord or space-marine captain, etc.

    but no special characters

For user organised games at Gaelcon, sure. if your opponent agrees to it.

Cheers for that Lemming - I'll pass the detals along.

Digi - don't fall into the trap my brother does - relying on Special Characters is a huge mistake. They can help swing a battle, but they'll never do it single handedly (unless they happend to be close combat specialists and they happen upon the enemy's command squad).

Instead, use the (impressive looking) models as a "regular" version of what they are: e.g. I have the Eldrad Ulthran (Ulthe Craftworld Farseer Leader) as a regular Farseer in my Seer Council. It adds variety and gives you a rock solid model to paint and spend time on too.

    Anyway, that's going off topic...

As was said, most competitions won't allow special characters in armies, so beef up with more numbers - there really is strength in numbers - last month's WD City-Fight rules battle report showed that as Imperial Guard took on and beat some Night Lords Chaos Marines convincingly.

the w40k tournament rules for Gaelcon can be found here ...

    http://www.gaelcon.com/warhammer40krules.doc

and the WFB rules here ...

anyone contemplating joining in the tournament had best bone up on them and get their army lists ready
