Internal Ducting

    Hi folks,

Anyone ever hear of a product similar to the hose that comes out of a clothes dryer, except small and lightweight enough to use inside a machine to duct the hot air from the heatsink fan directly out of the case? Light weight (and flexibility) is very important so as not to place any lateral stress on the CPU/socket.

I've thought about (and tried) a number of things including hoover tube (not flexible enough) and, believe it or not, chicken wire wrapped with cling-film (I was fairly intoxicated at the time :) )but nothing I've tried or found quite fits the bill.

    Anyone have any ideas??

    P.S Am I mad? :)

    Info here

Not sure if you can buy this stuff in any UK stores but it's a starting point.

Search the forums aswell.. alot of peeps made simple ducting from cardboard.

Depending on the method you use to duct it apparently it can be a big help or a huge flop..

personally I'd rather ventilate properly rather than duct.

Some stuff that may be useful here.

Oh I am ventilating properly, I even filter the intake air so I don't have to clean the heatsink so often, and it works as well as can be expected, but the noise is driving me mad. (I don't trust water cooling) I want to see if ducts will allow me to use fewer/slower intake/exaust fans.

By the way...thanks for replying :)

    I can't believe it's actually a product :) God bless the Japanese

lol yeah shipping from Japan would be a small fortune ;)

If the fan noise is bothering you, you might like to try a rheobus or fanbus controller. Pretty simple to build with parts from peats.
I have a pcmods rheobus on the way from theoverclockingstore right now. Gonna see how l33t it is ;)

ah, but tis much more satisfying doing it yourself. I have 2 rheostats in meh pc. One controls the cpu fans, and is mounted on the back of the case. The other controls the front 120mm fan. Works nicely, I can leave the pc on 24/7 in my room. I'd post pics if I had a digital camera..

I might just make one or two of em
god knows i'm just itching to properly mod that AT super-combo double kick ass case of mine....
    Anyone got any neon paint?

    Me again,

Anyway.....about these ducts. I can't find 'em for sale in any reasonably close-by english-speaking country ( i.e. USA or GB ). If/when anyone finds them for sale, please post a new topic about them.

    Thanks,

    Bosco

They use stuff called 'plexicard' or 'plasticard' or something.
I reckon they could sell you some.
It is good stiff stuff, should be perfect for making your own duct.
    It's just a suggestion.
I've been browsing a bit lately and I've seen a lot of US sites selling ducting/overclocking related stuff.
I honestly can't remember any direct URLs though
try looking for links on www.hardocp.com

very, very simple. Make it yourself, out of cardboard and strong tape. I have a duct for my front 120mm fan, to force it to take air from the front of the case, since it is mounted a few inches from the front. A flexible hose like a clothes dryer hose would offer too much resistance to the air, inmho, and the cardboard and tape is a much cheaper way of doing it.

    Folks,

    Just to clarify a point....

I need a flexible/lightweight tubing similar to dryer-tube because the duct needs to be over 40cm long, must bend around corners, and above all, must be lazy-person friendly in that it must be easy to install and remove.

BTW.....thanks folks for your input :)

Why do you need it to bend?
Are you trying to direct the fan in front over the CPU only?
That will deprive cooling from just about every opther piece of hardware in the case. Not reccomended, if that is what you're doing.....

I'll be ducting my Slot1 P3 soon enough.
Goining to have 2x 60mm fans (exhaust) over the ATX I\O panel at teh back with some ducting over the CPU. Going to leave a bit of space underneath to get a nice airflow.

I'll tell you how I get on.

I'm trying to dust the warm exaust air from the heatsink directly out of the case. Becasue of the way my case intake/exaust is layed out the best place to vent this warm heatsink air is at the top-back of my case ( the space my machine occupies is too confined for venting at the sides, and I don't want to vent warm air only to suck it back in somewhere else ). To get the vent running between the two places it has to bend around the power supply, and through some fairly tight gaps.

Is the PC in some sort of built-in cabinet?

If not get a bigger case.

There's supposed to be one nice on in Peats for about £50.
