i put a linux partion on the same hardrive as my win2k installtion, i wanna format it, put win98 in there instead, and put linux on a 2nd hardrive. How do i go about formatting linux-mandrax8 partition? windows doesnt' regonise it, i dont have mandraxe8 cd's atm. Does dos regonise it?

the simple awnser is no windows/dos will not recognise the linux filesystem.

What ya need is a linux boot disk or a linux distro on a bootable cd.

and then user cfdisk to make the partitions and then the install will format them for use.

you could get the files for a boot disk from here . thats esat's slackeware mirror, i suggest you download the iso from there also and install that :)

    This is what you do.

Go into the bios and set the hd mode to lba or a mode it's not set to, then goto dos and remove the non dos partition using fdisk, then goto the bios again and set it to auto. Voillahh, you should now be able to recreate the partition as a usable windows 95/98 partition.

You could also try using gdisk (http://cyberzoo.de/gdisk.exe). It will be able to read linux partitions from within windows and is able to nuke them cleanly.

    in computer management in win2k
    go to Disk Management
and in there you should be able to see your linux partitions and format them from there.
Well it worked for me, i wanted to get rid of mandrake8.
    removed partitions with that...
setup some more space on a different drive with that also then reinstalled mandrake.

vincent did you ever get quakeworld and quake3 going?
i got my gforce2 going perfect now so no more software quakeworld and quake3 works too... havent tried timedemo yet to compare with windows but ill get around to it soon.

Actually reminds me of a question.
Anyone got any ideas on how i would change gamma for quake1?

    cause its way too dark.
    Sorry for going off-topic.

i was too lazy to set them up podge, i might get around to it some day. i formatted my linux partition with disk management it did the job nicely. To change gamma u can use idgamma but i found that a bit gey. I'm using mqwcl now and in that just use gl_gamma 2 and gl_contrast 2 to get it looking nice. In qwcl use the .gamma command in qizmo. I used to use .23 before i migrated to mqwcl. Still have to use qwcl in leagues, bastard goin back to it cos mqwcl looks 10times better.

morequakeworld in linux doesnt support the gl_gamma gl_contrast etc..
    ill give qizmo a try.
    cheers
