New Refugee Crisis, should we help ?

    To explain what i mean.

I heard on sky news that there is an impending disaster in Afganistan, with literally missions of displaced peoples fleeing the expected war.

New refugee camps are being considered around the Pakestan/Afgan border.

Obviously there will be a funding drive where the west will be asked to send the funds to keep these people from dying in terrible conditions.

Here is the problem. The Taliban recruits its followers from the refugee camps. (Source Sky News Report).
Because these people have hard a hard life they seem inclined towards the fundamentalists. Desperate people will take desperate actions.

So if we help fund new camps, are we infact paying to breed a new generation of Taliban supporters, who support Jihad against the west, and terrorism.

The Taliban coudn't care less about these people. Just this week they stole over 100 tons of food desperately needed for themselves, ensuring the refugees will be the first to suffer from sanctions etc. No doubt they will then broadcast pictures of starving children, and blame the west, when they themselves have actively take food from their mouths.

I'm not sure that helping create refugee camps, and feeding the hungry won't in fact be where the next wave of sucide bombers come from.

What do you think? Whats the solution?

This harkens back to a basic question.....

what are the west going to do about the Taleban?

The problem is that this is supposed to be a fight against terrorism. Until the governments of the world officially denounce the Taleban as a terrorist organisation, as opposed to a religious caste, then they can do nothing about it.

We can protect the refugee camps against food-raids to some extent, but at the end of the day, you cannot deny these people the freedom of religion, thus proving their argument that the west is oppressing Islam - perhaps not in all its forms, but in this particular form.

Bit of a case of "damned if you do, damned if you dont" really. Help the starving masses, which will probably ultimately lead to increased Taleban membership, perpetuating the problem (as we see it). Alternately, leave them to starve? Or declare war on the Taleban because of its recruitment practices?

There dont seem to be any attractive options here, other than to feed the starving, and do what is possible to prevent theft of supplies.
