Pointless Censorship???

We all feel horrible about the trade center tragedy, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

America was wounded, and many people got fcuked up, so I can understand when the bu1l$h1t entertainment industry shuts down. New movies being postponed or canned altogether...whatever. New TV season premieres shuffled around...fine...who the fcuk cares. Also, the cancellation of awards shows doesn't affect me in any way.

However, something caught my eye today that thoroughly pi$$ed me off. It seems that Clear Channel, the largest radio monopoly in the world, has distributed a list of songs that they want yanked from the air. They say that these songs are "lyrically questionable", in light of the recent tragic events. Someone over at Clear Channel needs to be fired.

Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for anyone affected by what happened, but what the fcuk? We've gone from postponing to punishing. Why punish artists for having a lyric that can, in some far out way, be connected to airplanes crashing into a building? None of these songs were written after the tragedy. None of these songs were written about the tragedy. Leave well enough alone.

So, without further adieu, here's the bu1lsh1t list. Apologies for the length, but this needs attention...

    wtf?!

I don't even need to point out the many glaring problems with this list. They scream loud enough by themselves. Many of the suggestions are downright idiotic! "The Night Chicago Died" ??!!

Clear Channel needs to remove their heads from their anus's and leave their stations alone. Insane ****s with no love of life, running around with anthrax and nukes in suitcases are what needs to be worrying about right now, aparently. Innocent songs that can be seen as cryptic in a certain light are not the problem here.

This isn't an act of love for America. This isn't expression of good morals. This is not protecting victims' rights. This is blatant censorship, and it's blatantly pointless.

I leave you with an article on the subject:
    here it is

I hope it sickens you as much as it sickened me.

Keep searcing your news stories. You will find the story is not true.

Clear Channel sent out a message to all the stations asking what songs it thought shouldn't be played that would upset people. One of the stations being particully nasty submitted a massive list of songs, many of which had nothing to do with the disaster (Frank Sinatra, "New York, New York" was written before the Twin Towers).

Clear Channel at no time said the songs where band and to my knowledge no radio station is adhering to that list.

Somewhere along the way someone told the news service that Clear channel were censoring the music when they weren't.

    abc news!
Clear Channel, the world's largest group of radio stations, circulated the list in its newsletter Hits Daily Double. It includes AC/DC's "Shot Down in Flames" as well as mellower songs such as Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door."

    Damn misleading news corporations!

Can u throw up a link to your ref site on this ?

Hey amn' t I great... i barely read your post, didn't read your link but have an opinion anyway...

Seriously, some sensitivity is not a bad thing, although that does not necessarily mean OTT type behaviour...

Remember the song "Burn Baby Burn - Disco Inferno"....?
Well you wouldn't have heard this classic song too much on the radio in Ireland after the Stardust disaster... and rightly so IMO as it would have been too close for people involved for a long time... yeah?

Well Clear channels Press release was a giveaway.

Yahoo news tells a slightly different story but a spokesperson from Clear Channel said "They are not banning the songs".

Of course the best place to check for urban legends is Snopes
