Let down, disappointed.

This is slightly different to the usual 'getting over people' type of post as this isn't about a girlfriend or boyfriend but rather just a friend.

A while back I was let down quite badly by a very good friend of mine. (Or at least someone I thought was a very good friend of mine). I tried to get over it, forgive and forget and all that, for the sake of what i thought was a good friendship. However despite this I found out that he went on to let another friend of his down in an even worse way. I realised that, well he probably wasn't the guy I thought he was since he seemed incapable of treating his close friends with the respect that they deserve.

I pretty much cut off contact with him and have gone through periods of anger about the whole thing. But, besides the anger, what I've felt most is disappointment. I thought I'd made a really good friend and felt gutted when it all fell apart. Thing is, after a few months, it all still bothers me a lot. He was the only guy in this town that I was good friends with (I have many acquaintance friends and girls who are good friends) and now I feel at a loss a lot of the time.

In some ways finishing a friendship with someone is harder than a relationship. I know that I will never be friends with this guy again (and don't want to be after how badly he treated people) but I still miss all the craic we used to have together.

Has anyone else found themselves in a situation similar to this? There is no real 'rebound' period for friendships is there? Can't imagine going out to a club, getting drunk and making a best friend (that's a rather odd idea).

YES. The exact same thing happened to me about a month or two ago. It does get quite disconcerting when you lose such a good friend, especially if said friend had ties to all your other friends, then it's just awkward.
However, I would suggest going out with other friends as much as possible. Take your mind off it, have a good time etc. :)

And no, I don't think there is a rebound for friends...unless you get upset just after you stop talking to the friend, but then go back after a week and apologise or whatever. That's happened to me a few times, too. ¬_¬
