I'll have a poke around and see if the fax charts are archived publically anywhere.

its the right day alright, although it is a little early in the day. remember feeling the effects of this storm during daylight hours so it would probably show up better on 12z or 18z maps.

The day after , i.e xmas day shows it better http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/1997/Rrea00119971225.gif

I remember being in the Kingscourt apartments on Parnell Street at the time in town on the top floor and honestly fearing that the roof was going to come off (the apartments were still being finished off) ..if only i knew then that house prices were about to spiral totally out of control..was happy renting...

That was a proper storm !!

How low did the pressure get down to. on that chart it shows 980 but I imagine that it would have been lower over the atlantic.

I remember parts of Liemrick city being flooded because of it and parts of penny's clock fell down onto the street below onto last minute christmas shoppers. don't recall though if there were any injuries though.

Lower pressure doesnt necessarily mean lower winds. Most storm severe
storms occur as secondary lows forming of mother lows if you will.

Something similar will occur on Monday although not to quite the same
    intensity as that.

That was a great Christmas:D .. remember not sleeping all night! Dont
know how the parents managed to get the pressies done without
me knowing...! I was 8 or 9 at the time.

We had christmas breakfast on a little gas thing we found in the shed!
The electricity was gone for more than 24 hours, a few tree's were knocked
down in the field beside and i remeber loads of debris..

I cant remember what we did that christmas... i think we might of went
to my cousins in Dalkey but im not too sure, we didnt have a turkey
    anyway!

And i couldnt play with my presents:mad:
I remember we were all so fed up we had to get up at about 4 or 5am!
That was the year i got my scaletric:(

There were a couple of minor injuries on O'Connell street, large parts of AIB 105/106 roof blew off and hit cars that section of road was subsequently closed off.

Christ, it's hard to believe that was almost eight years ago. I remember my power went at around 8pm on Christmas Eve. I was certain that it would be gone for Christmas Day, ruining everything. Luckily, it returned a couple of minutes later and thus Christmas was saved. If I remember correctly, we gave Midnight Mass a miss that year, as there was debris flying everywhere. Woke up expecting to see half the roof missing, but all was well, apart from a couple of missing slates.

My niece was born on 23rd and the hospital didnt want to let my sister out because her house had no power. Luckely she had power back at around midnight on Christmas eve. so they let her home on Christmas Day.

Was living in a house at the bank of the Shannon in the city, and the river came up to the garden. a neighbour left one of their windows open and it was ripped off its hinges, and ended up in our garden.

Had a gas oven so were fine. I think we got power back on Christmas day or the day after. Some of the relatives nearby waited 5 days Not only without electricity, but also without water as they relied on a well.

4 kids under 6yo. Can't remember how they managed.
