Heading over to Birmingham tomorrow for the show. What's the chances of picking up an AC compressor for my 72 Mustang at the show or in the Birmingham area. I know I've left it a bit late to ask but you never know.
By the way, I have found an abundance of them on the net via the US, but they seem to make it damn hard to buy online, they either don't sell outside the US and Canada, or require reams of personal info before they commit to my visa.

    Dubtom,

I have come across the problems you mention in shopping parts online for my 92 Mustang, but eventually found some sites that will do the business. Don't know if I'm allowed to mention names on the board, am I?

    Yes you can.

www.rockauto.com - good service, will ship overseas, excellent (I mean the best) part-finder facility on the web-site. Find parts by model and year of car, and see photograph in most cases before ordering. 72 Mustang AC Compressor - various choices from $115 - $240.

Thanks for the link Doodler, unfortunatly the shipping is more expensive than the part.I suppose its the price we pay for owning a yank.

Yes unfortunately, I guess an AC compressor is not too light, and you'll have to pay VAt and customs on the combined shipping and goods cost.

If you buy it from a scrappers second hand you should only have to pay shipping :)

?? Am I missing the joke, or is there really an exemption for "scrap" parts?

Do you have any links for these scrappers 69?

have you tried Ford Mustang specialists on the continent? Surely shipping costs will not be as expensive as from the US and it will be intra-European transaction, so no import duties etc payable...

I know there are at least 6 dedicated Ford Mustang specialists in Holland, providing cars and parts, and two in Belgium!!!!

If you want specific details, let me know and I will pm you some details...

I had a look in europe for a carb; cheapest i could find was TWICE the price that i eventually got one shipped to my front door from the US with VAT and all. The european based ones are big time rip off.

re: scrap parts. Yes, ive had second hand (or 35th hand more like) parts shipped from the states without an tax issues, once its clearly marked they are used on the box

Ouch, twice the price of a 'landed from the US' price is very expensive :(

I would say new parts and service items would be indeed more expensive if sourced on the continent, but some of the bigger items and stuff that could be got 2nd hand, I'd say it could be worth a shot to try and source the item closer to home. If it's still more expensive than straight from the US, at least you've tried...

    Paulk,

I'm going to shop around for a collection of spare parts, just to have to hand, so I'd be happy to deal with a European company, especially if it will save me money! So would appreciate if you could pass on details of suppliers you have good experience with.

I've seen several compressors on ebay, usually very cheap. They are quite heavy though, but most places like California Mustang stock refurbished one's.

Hi this is 'the guy' whose site you listed above! I did use Mustang Masters but beware they are very expensive (I only used them for a couple of small parts I couldn't get elsewhere, and they charged a fortune). The guy who runs it is known in the trade as 'Fast Freddy' - nuff said!
